I am curious if the Vortex has a threshold with a threshold adjustment

Looking at the video, all I see is notch, iron volume, iron on/off.

Won’t appeal to some, but I kind of like that.

At least I think I will.

That means the detector isn’t a moving target. I have to adjust to it.

I’d rather train my ears than play the guessing game with only vaguely documented filters that sometimes act against each other.

The more you train your ears, the better they get. Filters? Non-linear variables. You have many different moving targets.

Never touched a Garrett. May not work for me.

In basketball, everyone is trying to put the ball through the hoop. In this hobby, no two people may have the same goals. What works for one may be worthless for others.

For a detector addict who is way over budget, it doesn’t matter. Addicts don’t pay attention to budgets.

Plus, this might be the magic detector I’ve been looking for, haven’t found it yet. But maybe …

The Vortex series is a nearly direct replacement for the AT series aside from the lack of VCO 1 tone audio with threshold gold prospecting/relic mode.

I liked the AT series until the Equinox 600/800 was released.

I am hoping that the SMF tech on the Vortex, its waterproofing, ergonomics, wireless audio, internal lithium ion battery, big easy to see screen and good single frequency choices when I need them, will really be a worthy successor to the AT series.

If the performance of the Vortex makes me not want to ever use an AT series or Ace Apex again, I am good.

For me, that's all Garrett has to accomplish with the Vortex.

It doesn't at present.  I am hoping they add that as well as continuous (Pitch/VCO) tone audio like on the AT Max(which has threshold and continuous tone all metal).  5 Tones is fine, but I'm a pitch/VCO or full tones guy.  Pitch/VCO preferred over full tones if I can only have one (and preferably with a separate iron tone/volume adjustment at the disc break)

dang, I was hoping for something to rival the Etrac ferrous/conductive numbers that I liked so much when that unit came out in '08 I believe...oh well.
