That's really cool you made it onto Pawn Stars with it!  I thought he came in low on the price though.

  • The title was changed to My 5 Minutes Of Fame LOL

Yeah, he really did. But it is an actual Pawn Shop, too, so I really couldn't expect anything less. 😂

They say that hindsight is 20/20, and now that it is gone, I wish I would have never sold it. But, you live and you learn. 😁😉

That's neat that you were on that show! Was the filming/meeting planned ahead of time or did you just walk in and go from there?

Just curious about the story and how it happened.

I found that meteorite on a dry lake bed near where I used to live. Bob Verish (the expert "friend" of Ricks) is actual a friend of mine and he cut the stone and sent it off to Alan Rubin at UCLA to be classified. After the classification was complete, Bob called me and asked if he could give my contact information to the production company of the show. I guess they contacted him to try to help find someone with a real meteorite to sell on the show. So, a few days later I got a call from LeftField Productions asking me if I would be willing to go on the show and try to sell it to Rick. They asked me to send them a picture of it and some information about it, as well as how much I wanted for it. They said they would contact me again in a few days and let me know if Rick was okay with it. 5 hours later I got another call telling me that it was a go. They scheduled my filming about 2 months out from the date of the call. I showed up to film on March 14th of 2014. And the rest is history.. lol.

cool information but kind of ruins the show knowing how it operates 🙂

Not all transactions go down the same way mine did. There are actually people that walk in off of the street to sell stuff. If Rick or one of the other guys thinks it is a good enough item to be on tv, they will ask that person if they want to film the transaction. If they say yes, they get taken into the back warehouse where the Sound Stage is built and that's where the filming happens. It is not filmed inside of the actual pawn shop itself. You also do not get paid for being on the show. If you sell your item, then you make some money just like in a real pawn shop (because it actually IS a real pawn shop). If you don't sell your item, you don't get any money. However, whether you sell your item, buy an item, or were just an extra, if you were part of the filming process for that episode, you get a free Pawn Stars t-shirt from inside of the pawn shop. That's it. At least, that's how it was when Bob and I filmed back in 2014. It may be different now 10 years later.
