Great find and some good money in your pocket.

Thanks for sharing the video and the story about it.

Thats a cool rock Chris, I remember when you found it.... He asked on the show where the rest of it is... your forgot to mention, I have a nice slice size you gave me, when you found it... lol...

Good stuff!  You did an excellent job speaking in front of a video camera.

Did you have to include any documentation from UCLA confirming it was catalogued?  Given the expert's claim that what makes this one more valuable than typical is that connection, I would think a buyer (including whoever were to buy it from the pawn shop) would require that.

Yes, you certainly do, Dave. You were the first person I gave a piece to. After all you've done for me over the years, and our 10+ year friendship, it's the least I could do. 😊

Thank you for the questions. I had to submit the link to the MetBull catalog listing to the producers, so they verified the fact that it is catalogued before they invited me officially to film. That listing gave them all of the information they were looking for.

Nice find Chris!  Too bad they didn’t have a better microscope- that interior looked interesting.  You wouldn’t happen to have any better photos of it, would you? Please post them if so.

Last time out there looking we came home with a truck that was overweight and overheated due to all the wet sticky silt it picked up and clogging the radiator from driving out after a cumulus cell opened up on us before we could hike back to it! It’s amazing how fast the roads filled up with standing water.   I love hiking those playas but it was stupid of us to stay so long.
So that was a pretty penny for a “broken” meteorite!  😉

Cool story, so what kind of chondrite is this pretty rock and do you really think it was from a recent fall, just curious because that looks like some weathered fusion crust to me. 😉

It is a H6 ordinary chondrite. The "time on the ground" was an estimate given to me by Dr. Rubin based on his findings during a brief conversation  with him and is subject to debate, I'm sure...lol. Here is a link to my MetBull entry.

Man, I wish I had photos of it. I wish I had never sold it to them. I literally have nothing left of that meteorite 😞. I was seriously very new to the hobby at that time and was simply overcome with excitement and the opportunity to do the show. If only I could go back in time...lol. But, I still have other finds from CDL back then, so I didn't totally lose it.

Yes, that lake bed gets EXTREMELY muddy and slick after a good summer monsoon rips through it. And that stuff is super hard to get off of, and out of, your vehicle if you run through it. You're lucky you made it out without having to be "rescued" (towed/recovered)!
