Been looking at some of the AKA units out of Russia.

My buddy bought one several years ago and showed it to me but we couldn't figure out how to get it back into English on the menu.

I have watched a few videos on YouTube as of recent and I do believe I would like one myself.

Have any of you used this unit or one of the other AKA units that mind giving some input with your experience?

Thanks, Tim

I was excitedly chasing down a Berkut5 a couple of years ago, almost purchased, until communication faltered around the English faceplate and I decided to walk away.

I remain impressed with the feature set and the subsequent release of dual frequency coils.

If you still need help with navigation in the menus I can look up the forum website where you can get help.

My friend no longer has his. However there is a dealer here in the US that has them.

I called them today. The unit runs at 7khz on the stock coil.

I asked if there was another coil o could swap the stock coil out for for a higher freq.

I was told to call back on Monday and talk to the boss.

so I will be doing that.

  • The title was changed to AKA Sorex Anyone?
  • 2 months later...

I have an Aka Signum and several coils... /Version higher than Sorex/.... and now also an Aka Intronik STF detector, which is a two-frequency detector and in addition coils: 13" coil 2 and 14khz, 13" coil -5 and 40 khz, and also a 9x12" coil working on 7a 60 khz...

Now when testing Aka Intronik STF on a 13" coil 5-40 khz.. I can say that this detector has really good depth potential..

after the first tests.. a coin the size of a silver dollar at a depth of 40 cm/16"/ the detection depth of the Intronik detector is really good, it is deeper than its predecessor Aka Signum,,, and in my opinion it will be among the deepest detectors on the market..

..here is a photo from a real detection..., I was lucky with a silver coin..

If you have an Android phone you can use this Google Translate app, you just use your camera and hold it over the foreign language and it will instantly translate it to English for you, handy in the case of correcting something like a detector set in the wrong language.

I use it to translate Chinese and Indian food packaging to see what it is I'm about to buy as our Asian supermarkets often have food packaging with no English on it at all🙂

I also used it when I reset my Nissans car stereo headset back to factory defaults and it went into Japanese (the default language), I was then able to navigate the menus to set it back to English.

I'm sure Apple will have something similar.

I have happened to purchase 2 Sorex metal detectors recently. The one that is on the left I was able to purchase new. The other one with a darker face I purchased pre-owned from the original owner.

The used one has S-SFT one the right side is f the screen and the one I bought new says MFT on the right side of the screen.

They both have the same software version installed.

However, does anyone know the difference between them if there is any?

Also the one I purchased new has has a different mounting system than the pre-owned one.

I really like the Sorex detectors.

The difference between the Sorex and the Signum is that the Sorex has a fixed frequency offset several steps from the center of the coil's resonance...
That's why the Sorex is more stable on some more difficult terrains.. at the price of a slightly weaker range.. compared to the Signum..
It should be noted here that the Signum can also be moved from the center resonance of the coil by a few steps.. and thus turn it practically into a Sorex..

What I mean is one Sorex says MFT and the other says S-SFT on the front.

Is there a difference between the two?

the differences between the models are well explained here...
