Mike,what is the significance of having the coil so high off the ground ?? i dont own a F75 but i do own 2 T2 one standard but also a brand new one with cache and boost mode and also some large coils as well.

I would think unless you're in mineralized soils keeping the coil off the ground 6-8 inches would be very detrimental? In my mild soils it would be a mistake I think to keep the coil off the ground like that.

Simon,that was my way of thinking as well,i may well be overlooking something simple though.

A friend has an F75 and spent some time playing around with the cache mode and large coils. It’s been a few years since we discussed it but I believe the purpose of keeping the coil raised was to aid in ignoring small targets?

Hi Rick,

Noah is correct.  

Hearing big, deep targets isn't an issue.   The real issue is discriminating big deep targets from all the other noise.   By raising the coil far enough above the ground so that you only hear the big deep stuff helps you focus on just them.   Assuming you are hunting in a threshold based all metal mode, you also want to keep the coil high enough that you have a steady threshold that is not being affected by ground noise or small targets.

Hunting big and deep on purpose is a lot different than hunting coins, jewelry and most relics.  You don't even hold the detector the same way.  All that matters is that its balanced and easy to keep the coil at the right height.  Twist the rod so the DD edge of the coil is perpendicular to your direction and walk it like a two box.   You can hold it via the middle rod, even upside down if makes it comfortable.   All that matters is the balance for the needed coil height and staying on the grid.
