NCtoad
I’m trying to find an XP replacement CF marked lower rod to replace the plastic one on my original d2. I have a newer d2 that has the CF marked lower rod and would like to buy one of the newer ones that are carbon fiber for my old d2 that I use for water hunting. I contacted Colonial Metal detectors and he emailed me back saying that his distributor said this: So, has anyone bought just the CF lower shaft and if so, where did you get it? thanks BTW, I had been using the nokta carbon fiber lower rod on my original d2 for water hunting, but I noticed that the lower radius of the bolt hole section is larger than the corresponding oem lower shaft part and sand has gotten in the space between that rounded part and the coil and is starting to wear away at the coil. The stock shaft is smaller and would let sand particles pass through that area. That’s why I’m wanting to get the oem carbon shaft.
Chase Goldman
I've only heard the CF shaft being included with the 13x11 coil because it is stiffer than the standard shaft, but TBH, even though it is stamped CF and does appear stiffer than the stock shaft, it sure doesn't appear to be CF. I guess you want the CF shaft for your water rig because it is stiffer and can handle the water drag forces better? Anyway, I was unable to find a source for just the XP CF lowers standalone. I did find, what I believe to be the standard lower shaft here: https://seriousdetecting.com/collections/brand-xp-metal-detectors/products/xp-deus-metal-detector-lower-shaft-pole?_pos=6&_fid=a2e793362&_ss=c This place appears to have just about every XP Deus 1 and 2 piece part you could ever want or need. They do also sell this third party CF lower that will fit the standard XP stem assembly: https://seriousdetecting.com/products/detect-ed-carbon-fiber-lower-shaft-for-xp-deus-deus-ii-metal-detectors?pr_prod_strat=e5_desc&pr_rec_id=b93cfc6b9&pr_rec_pid=8370408489244&pr_ref_pid=8289783546140&pr_seq=uniform So that could be an option if you can't find a source for the XP CF lower. Its about $20 more than the standard lower shaft above. HTH

Both stems are stamped CF. I think it was Bob (F350) that surmised that the CF meant carbon fiber. I had my doubts also as it doesn’t look like any carbon fiber shaft that I’ve ever seen. But, if I’m remembering correctly, either Bob or someone else had contacted CP and verified that the shafts marked CF were indeed carbon fiber. I tried looking for that thread, but can’t seem to find it.
F350Platinum
Hey NC, Here's a screenshot from the XP website for proof that the new lower for the 13x11" coil is indeed carbon fiber. It's different but definitely weighs less than the standard one and is stiffer. The lower has a reference number D03-B according to the post. Here is a link you can get it from right now: https://highplainsprospectors.com/products/xp-carbon-fiber-lower-stem-d03-b 1
Jeff McClendon
The 11” FMF coil that I recently purchased came with a CF stamped carbon fiber shaft. The coil and shaft are for sale in the Classifieds right now.
NCtoad
I decided to stay with the nokta lower rod. I sanded the rounded part at the end where the bolt goes through to a smaller diameter. This made more clearance between that section and the coil so sand will pass through the gap. I also checked the stiffness between the CF marked oem and the nokta. The nokta is much stiffer. It’s easily noticeable just trying to bend the two with my hands.
Tom Slick
My Deus wears the Nokta lower rod. About half the price of the XP rod. Only slight mod needed to use on the XP coil.
Sinclair
Imho the newer "CF" stamped rods maybe fibre glass or carbon fibre reinforced, but there certainly not 100% carbon fibre and they're way to sloppy, if you're using the >=11" coil. Detect-Ed sells a direct replacement carbon fibre lower rod, which helps a lot. Been using it since 3/4 year without a problem.
