Popular Post UT Dave
Earlier this year, this small ledge looked like a perfect spot to sit down. And it was. And the lithic scatter at my feet attested to the fact that others had thought the same. And the tiny bit of gold that was panned nearby. - Dave

Valens Legacy
Great find, I would be digging down almost 2 feet to get as much as I could out of that area. Good luck on your next hunt and outing.

Good luck on your next hunt and outing. The spot that tiny bit of color panned out of, it was scraping gravel off of exposed dry waterfall bedrock. Beats moving 2 feet out of the way, but I can't say that ten steps away that moving 2 feet wouldn't have been worth it. We'll be back there, every spring, till I'm too old to do it anymore. Been visiting it for decades now. Neither the gold, nor the coin/relic detecting have ever been amazing there. But the solitude and scenery, I go back year after year for that alone and anything else is just gravy. - Dave
UT Dave
We move camp every night, spend the day just letting the wind blow us around as it pleases and ending up wherever we end up. This is camp from that particular night. The trip wasn't all sunshine and roses though. The night before that, we spend in a spot not of our choosing but of our circumstance. We'd got ourselfs kind of stuck. Not, exactly stuck. We could move forward or back at will. But every little inch we tried to go forward or back, gravity was having it's way with the rig and pulling it off the side towards the drink. At some point, I think I actually said something out loud about just going for it. And found myself in the driver seat shortly after opening my mouth. The feeling between the cheeks every little bit of throttle gave me... I shut my mouth real quick. Anyway, we ended up just putting out our cots in the middle of that shelf road right there for the night. Next day we finally got it all sorted and back on our way. It felt, real, real good to drive away under our own power. But, so, anyway... That roaring campfire next to the river, with a little bit of gold in the pan, ribeyes on the grill, cold beer easing the aches and pains of the last couple of days. That felt, so, so, good. If you could bottle that, you'd just keep it all for yourself. - Dave 5
sodbuster
looks like you were prepared. How far back did you have to go to hook up your winching equip? glad it wasn't me for sure.

It took quite a few sets and attempts before finally getting it right. But once we got four anchors in solid, about 100 feet up that hillside, and pulling both ends of the truck at the same time, it worked a treat. The fact that I can't hear rattlesnakes and that the hillside held a few added significantly to the stress of the situation. My buddy tries to make his F-150's act like they are Jeeps. He makes them do a pretty amazing impression much of the time, but other times, not so much. okara gold
Is the plastic on the sides of your vehicle to help with brush scratches? I used to end up with loads of "Arizona Pinstriping" LOL
