Popular Post schoolofhardNox
I haven't been around for a while, but I try and stop in to see what everyone else is finding when I can. Here are a couple of finds from the Battle of Great Falls - Turners Falls - King Philip War. Most of the finds (not shown) are round ball (musket ball) and just in the last 8 or 9 visits we have found over 150 of them. This is just a portion of the total amount that have been found to date, although this is a very active section of the battle field. Also found are Native items unrelated to the actual battle, but collocated in the same area as the battle, such as the kettle ear, brass and knife blade. The 1/2 real was from a brief cellar hole hunt near my house. The last item shows the various views of what I think is a sword or dagger scabbard tip. If old enough, it would be battle related. If anyone knows for sure or recognizes what it may be or its time frame, I would appreciate that. It was the last item dug on a very wet day of detecting 😅
Lodge Scent
Nice! I've found enough kettle fragments over the years to fill a few kettles but never a brass kettle ear. Very cool.

The picture quality is not so good, but you can see its design is cruder. This one was found at the withdrawal from Mistick Fort (1637).
JCR
That's really special to be able to dig items with that history. Thanks for posting.
Doc Bach
Very nice indeed! Very little chance of one becoming jaded when digging those types of early historical finds. You just never know what's going to come out of the ground next. The knife blade looks very similar to the older straight razor blades that we dig out here in the west? Thanks for sharing and hope to see more. Doc
F350Platinum
Outstanding. 🏆 If you're able to keep the Real, you should probably go back to that cellar hole! 😎 Good to see ya back. 🙂 Great stuff.

I've had the pleasure of doing these projects for the last 15 years, and I'm just glad to be included and able to detect in areas that are off limits to most people. It's also exciting to know what we find will eventually paint a picture detailing the battle as never before. Hopefully, someone in the future will use our work and continue doing the battle site when better technologies exist. 3 hours ago, Doc Bach said: Very nice indeed! Even though most of it is lead and normally would be considered trash, here I am rooting for it. 😅 I was generally disappointed when I got a perfect large round ball reading and it turned out to be an Indian Head cent. 🤬 The knife blade hasn't changed a lot over the years, but we'll have to see if it's similar to other knives during the 1670's. Judging where it was found, it probably was not battle related, and is probably associated with the Native occupation in that area. 2 hours ago, F350Platinum said: Outstanding. 🏆 If you're able to keep the Real, you should probably go back to that cellar hole! 😎 Good to see ya back. 🙂 Great stuff. Thanks man. The real was a quick hunt I did by my house. That one I get to keep. The pecking order on project finds goes like this: 1) Town/Historical Society (Nation Park Service - ultimately), 2) the owner of the property 3) not us 😂 I'll be back at that cellar hole after the ferns and yellow jackets die down. 2 hours ago, Saker said: Great relics.
