M11 Coil Mod, Cut Out Struts, Light And Fast Underwater

Recommended Posts

I use it daily and I've had zero problems I have not noticed any falsing of any sort it acts exactly the same as it did when it was 5 oz heavier. I'm sure I have no warranty but I think I only have a year left of warranty anyway and it's not like I don't have other coils cuz I do have the 9-in coil and the 15-in coil so now it's probably one of the lightest 11-in coils on the market in the round version that is a little over 14 oz.

Is the Dremel the "go to" tool for this job.....cutting wheel first followed by the "sanding" style wheel ?

Also, do you need a couple shots of bourbon to steady the hands before surgery 🤔

Will certainly be doing this to mine when the warranty period draws to a close .   Also I note the new 18" Coiltek has an abundance of spokes/ribs . Looks like the removal of the short ones front and rear would not be a problem .

I have emailed Coiltek asking about the "need" for all of those coil ribs. I mean Minelab designed the M9 without them. I suspect they have a coil die that is used across different detector models....and they are expensive to re-design. The Manticore 18" coil is identical to the Equinox 18" coil. I'm guessing Coiltek felt the need to be comfortably further in size than the M15.

So Coiltek have said the ribs are to minimise flex from side to side......and any mods will kill off the warranty.

If I remember correctly there was a video from Manticore early days talking about the extra ribs. It's for minimizing falsing from coil knock due to Manticore extra power.. I'm surprise when M15 came out with no extra ribs..

Maybe they were looking in the wrong place , carbon shaft ? 😃

No, it's just the plastic material there.
