How about you Skate.....still no problems after the mod?

None whatsoever. It looks and feels like a bigger 9" coil. I enjoy using it and will be off the coast in the low tide with it tomorrow looking for a chain and pendant lost.

Personally the snark in me thinks they made the coil to look more aggressive and that all the clamor about how important the struts are is mostly about marketing. I'm open to being wrong on that but I've had zero negative issues.

I actually looked at my 11" on my 900 today and thought I could do the same with it but the detector hasn't been off the wall since I bough the manticore so why bother.

I braved the cold Pacific Ocean today with the modified 11" beast and recovered a very special religious necklace with a gold cross and pendant. I did my best Florida man impression as I was fully submerged due to some rogue swells but I was not going to be denied because once you're cold and wet there's no going back.

Ha ha super good reminder!-----I did the "operation"---made VERY SURE which strut I was castrating! :)-----The M11 shed 2 ounces & the performance wasn't (negatively) affected in the least.-----IMO---it swings better---a little better ergonomics.------I'm not sorry I did it---but it takes some nerve/consideration before doing so---those are EXPENSIVE coils & bye bye coil warranty.

Great job on the recovery! When there's a will there's a way....

what  about the skidplate? not using it all? or cable tie it on remaining ribs and coil

I don't use skid plates on the beach unless I'm in a rocky area.
