OneAcre
Does anyone know who carries the plastic battery cover push pins for the older Bounty Hunter detectors?
Noah (FL)
Look in the Tesoro,Compass, etc forum on here. I tried to link the thread but it doesn’t seem to work when using my phone. This is the thread title below There is a screenshot of the item from Amazon Tesoro "Under Shaft" Plastic Case Detectors - Battery Cover
OneAcre
Wow! I looked all over the web before posting here. Shoulda started here! Thanks @Noah (FL), thanks @Rick K - First Member. Here's the link to Rick K's post in case someone finds this thread first. https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/22977-tesoro-under-shaft-plastic-case-detectors-battery-cover/
OneAcre
@Noah (FL)... So i went ahead and ordered the Battery cover push lock pins posted by @Rick K - First Member. Only problem is they are too small, about 1/4". Leviton 47615-NYL. The hole size is not posted by Leviton as it is a replacenent part for their 'Structural Media System' My battery door has about a 5/16" hole (.297"). I found a data sheet for 'Heyco Snap Latch Rivets' that should work if I can find a small lot vendor.
Bob S.
Sometimes if you contact the manufacturer direct and ask for a "Product Sample" in the part number you need, they will send some. I used to work in engineering/drafting and the company I worked for asked the manufacturers often. The manufacturers were happy to oblige.
GeoBill
Looks similar to fender clips and other push retainers I've used in auto repair. Something like this, has pins for 6,7,8 mm holes. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D41VFNMD?psc=1 might do the job.
Bob S.
If my memory is not mistaken, the brand of fastener used by the metal detector manufacturers back then was "NyLatch". The plunger stayed with the locking grommet after installation. Hopefully the brand is still active or someone has reconstituted it.
OneAcre
@GeoBill... The auto body push retainers is a good idea, I'll check them out. @Bob S. Thanks for the name of the original manufacturer. Maybe an internet search will turn up the originals. The green detector used to ride behind the seat in a company truck for impromptu hunts during breaks between jobs. The black door and latch is a replacement purchased from Keith @ brokendetector.com about 20 years ago. Sadly, they are no more.
OneAcre
@Bob S.... Turns out Nylatch fasteners are still made. The vendor is Southco, they do indeed send evaluation samples. Heres a link to their caralog page: https://files.southco.com/static/Literature/ny-wg.en.pdf
