Got One Good One Anyway Water Hunting

Went up to the beach yesterday to get a trial run of my Tube Tubb rig in, another early start and a long hunt. I had been to the small beach and saw there were no jellyfish, so I figured there wouldn't be any further up the river.

Well I was wrong, the water was loaded with them. 😬 Luckily I brought some long quick dry pants and had no problem.

Got a nice 93 and thought to myself "well, another quarter, that's cool!"

Along with some clad I ended up with this blackened heavy ring:

It's around a Size 4, weighs over 6 grams.

It cleaned up nicely, another one for my wife. 

I'll probably take it to a local jeweler for authentication and further cleaning, Chanel rings usually have specific hallmarks but this one only has "925" and some other obliterated mark, it also appears to have been resized. I'm calling it as fake but 6.2 grams of silver for a ring that small is pretty good. The stones appear to be real but low grade diamonds, they are so small they're hard to test.

Here's the trash for the day, didn't dig any in the water but sure did on the beach.

I wish I had some tiny toy cinder blocks for the truck, the tires were all gone. 🤣 

Ended up with 31 more coins, a few older memorials, but the spot where I've been hitting old stuff is pretty cleaned out now. Got another Lord's Prayer coin in the water.

I was in the water for about 3 hours and spent the rest on the beach, locals told me not many people had been there as school is back almost everywhere.

There was another guy water hunting, he did the other beach but said he got nothing but coins and had to go way out to get them. He's a nice guy and didn't come over to where I was.

Honkah ring 350 ! 

Lots of folks uptah camp just cut chunks off a log for exactly the right length wood jackstands. Ya just need a 1/2" dia. stick ta slice up and GTG.  👍

Your wife is making out like a bandit 😄 Nice fat little ring. Worth the hunt, in addition to being at the ocean as well. May I recommend sugar cubes as cinder blocks? 🤔.

She is very happy that most rings I find fit her. 

This is river hunting at its finest, notice how flat it was. If it's windy it can be pretty rough, I've been out there in boats when I didn't want to be. Right after I left a severe storm rolled through. It got to me as soon as I started cleaning my gear but at least my truck got power washed 😅

I'm guessing with a VLF you're not going to find the really deep stuff, so you have to go in the water. I'm not a fan of it but if I'm going to earn Detecting Points™ for doing it, well here we are. 🤗

That would be the sort of "engineering" done here as well, but I was going more for a city vibe because, well, it's a Mercedes. 😅 I wouldn't be caught dead in a foreign truck of any brand here. 😬

Nice find on the silver and that river is huge!  I had a run in with some jellyfish about a week ago. Got stung at least 5 different times and I quit. There was a West wind blowing them into shore. I won't be going in the water without a long sleeve shirt for the remainder of the warm eater season. I still wear trunks, so the legs are still vulnerable.

I read your post, you're a tougher and more dedicated hunter than me. 😬 I've only been stung once this year, just one little shot that hurt all day. I picked up a cheap pair of Wrangler quick dry long pants, stuffed the legs in my dive socks, and just avoided reaching in the water when I saw a jellyfish, luckily the water is pretty clear. It worked well. Better than wearing neoprene anyway, it's tough enough to get the socks off.

The jellyfish are stinging nettles. They're starting to die out, recent heavy rains have lowered the salinity of the river, and thousands are washing up on the beach.

At slack tide the river can be very flat despite the wind. It pays to show up at the right time. I've been in 6-8 foot waves a couple of times in the river, not fun.

I may wear a quick dry long sleeve shirt tucked into my gloves, that might help when it gets colder. 👍
