IBMe
"Regarding the latest on release time, the Vortex detector is now in the early stages of production, and is expected to begin shipping to distributors in late September."
Mike_Hillis
It will be awhile before I cycle back around to Garrett. The wait killed the momentum for me, the initial excitement has passed and gave me too much time to reflect on what I currently have. phrunt
Here's the full message they've sent to someone who queried it. On a positive note, sounds like it's not too far from release now. 2
abenson
Typical delays that every metal detector company has when releasing a new model.
phrunt
We get all excited and then the delays are the end of the world 🙂 they happen more often than not, the only detectors they don't happen on are the ones we have no idea they're coming, but you can bet they don't meet their expected release date often either. It's some of the dealers that cause a lot of the problem, by taking peoples money on something that doesn't exist, this needs to stop, it causes much of the problems associated with delayed releases. A bunch of names in order is all they really need, taking money is completely unnecessary and is only done for their own benefit to secure sales. 3
longbow62
If you pre-order I'd say it's on the the buyer not the seller. I doubt Garrett would punish any seller for offering pre-orders. Garrett put the actual selling price out there most likely so it could be pre-ordered. Missing the shipping dates seem to be the norm for most detector companies these days. You hope by taking the chance of pre-ordering you will get your detector before anyone else does by bypassing the rush once they do start shipping. In doing so you set yourself up for possible delays and frustrations if the delays happen. I wouldn't suggest anyone pre-ordering if they are short on patience. I pre-ordered the Manticore the end of August 2022 right after the announcement, and got mine Jan. 10th 2023. That was not a fun wait.
phrunt
I guess I'm just jealous, according to Garrett's Official NZ and Australia websites the Vortex doesn't exist, no mention of it at all. I love that dealers have pre-order lists, that's great, I'd be first in line if I could be, my issue is taking payments, and some take full payment. Completely unnecessary and only done to benefit the dealer and try prevent buyers pulling out, realistically if the product is popular enough demand will outstrip supply anyway, so even if they take no payments they will run out of stock long before they have detectors sitting there unsold, and even if that's not the case, is it the right thing to do to take money for something you don't have, and may not end up with enough of to supply within a reasonable time frame? I'm glad dealers here don't play those games, in fact I think it's against the law, but it seems commonplace in the USA. If they have confidence in the product they were selling they wouldn't need deposits or pre-payment, they'd know they'll sell out regardless so if people pull out it goes to the next in line. In saying all of that, I think I'd drop some coin to be on a Vortex list, even though I disagree with the idea of dong so 🙂

In saying all of that, I think I'd drop some coin to be on a Vortex list, even though I disagree with the idea of dong so 🙂 I can understand both sides of the Coin on pre orders, in my opinion though its on the person placing the pre order and not the dealers I agree with what @longbow62 stated, I will use myself on this I did put my name on a dealers list to receive a Vortex VX9 and the dealer never requested that I pay in advance to be on that pre order list i choose to pay for my VX9 in advance knowing that it was going to be a wait for the VX9 to be delivered to me I was willing to accept the wait that is on me is the way I look at it, and I also feel if people choose to do as I have done it is on the person that chose to put their name on a pre order list and pay up front most dealers I have spoke to will do a pre order list and when the detector arrives to the dealer they will start calling people and then take payment when it is confirmed the person still wants the detector, I went ahead and paid for mine because I know I will eventually receive my VX9 and in fact since I was the first person on my dealers list I am assured to get mine when they come in. I am not saying all dealers do this but I have heard of people that went on a dealers pre order list pretty early and then never received a call until the dealer received a second lot of a detector to their store to me regardless of whether someone paid or did not pay any dealer that takes pre orders should dole out what ever detector in the order the pre order came in if you were first second or third you should be the 1st, 2nd or 3rd to receive your detector not after the dealer has supplied all their friends first

I don't know how it works with Garrett, will they want to keep enough in stock so they can sell directly and give smaller allotments to dealers? It might end up the same thing where it's easy to buy direct and they have stock, yet dealers are left waiting for small batches to arrive. Maybe Garrett won't have the stock problems Minelab seem to do, they might be able to have enough ready at release to cover all buyers. With you being first in line with your dealer that's a great position to be in, as long as the dealer in supplied stock from the initial batch.
