Isn't the 35 model Simon's ( @phrunt 's) favorite pinpointer of all time?? 😏  (Stated facetiously...)  I'm confident he'll chime in.

I believe the 40 has many of the problems of the 35 fixed up to some degree.  You couldn't give me a 35, the energy required to reach out and grab it wouldn't be justified.  I've had 3 35's in a replacement cycle trying to find a good one, they were all the same.

It's just a very unstable pinpointer.   It's lucky it has sensitivity settings as you need to run it very low sensitivity to keep it stable.  The 40 acknowledged this and improved upon it.

My current favourites

Water use: Nokta Pulse Dive

Beach use: Fisher F-Pulse

Gold prospecting: Sphinx 03

Coin/Jewellery hunting: Sphinx 03 or Garrett Carrot AT closely followed by XP Mi-4

VLF pinpointers are getting a bit like VLF detectors, not much in it when it comes to performance so feature requirements tend to heavily factor into which a person would like the best.

Garrett Carrot - Old faithful, there are more sensitive pointers, some with more features.  But the Carrot is durable, reliable, waterproof and gets the job done. Sides are more sensitive than the tip.  Wireless version is great companion with Zlynk audio system or Garrett detectors with built in Zlynk transmitters (AT Max, Apex, Axiom, and Vortex)

XP Mi4/Mi6 - Very sensitive, more features are unlocked if wirelessly paired to your Deus (Wi6). But Mi4 is decent as a standalone pointer.  Waterproof.

Nokta Accupoint - Decent Iron disc, stable but lacks some sensitivity compared to Garrett/XP, good controls and mini display.  Has Bluetooth Wireless Audio capability.  Waterproof.

Fisher F-Pulse/Teknetics Tec-Point - Very Sensitive PI pinpointer but has durability issues (in my experience).

I’ve tried most of the name brand pinpointers and just keep going back to the carrot. It’s reliable, durable, ergonomic and easy to use. The easy to use part is a big one for me. It has a large flat button that’s easy to find by feel alone. Can’t say the same for the other ones I’ve tried. Most have a small flush mounted hard button that I have to pause and physically look for. That may not sound like a big deal, but considering the fact that I dig thousands of targets per year, that little bit of time saved really adds up.

The Profind 35 was terrible in my opinion. The shape, the functionality and the button.
