Popular Post Reno Chris
Did some research and exploration earlier this year searching for new ground to detect. Struck out with a couple of possibilities, but the third guess yielded a new patch. The discovery first nugget was 6+ grams. This is a general area I have prospected for years, but a new spot within that greater area. I've got 40+ grams so far - but still lots of area that needs exploration. 44 3 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/26580-new-nugget-patch/ Share on other sites
GotAU?
Nice finds Chris! Those nuggets look so chunky that you should get an excavator. I’m pretty good around the control end of a shovel, Just PM me if interested! 😉 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/26580-new-nugget-patch/#findComment-280579 Share on other sites
Reno Chris
Although If I could scrape 6 inches or a foot off this area I am sure I'd get a lot more gold, earth moving work in California requires an endless series of permits, so I wont be doing that. 5 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/26580-new-nugget-patch/#findComment-280580 Share on other sites
GotAU?
I was just kidding about the excavator, I was talking about the human type! 😉 In your research, do you also use geology maps of an area? I’d think they may be another good way to find places that may be suitable gold bearing sites to explore, especially if they match up with similar strata of known nearby sites. I tried looking at some 1:24000 scale ones (same as the USGS topos), but they often seem to be too generalized and can only give a rough area for the classifications. What do you think? You are right, scrape and detect sounds like the way to go there. And if the sop soil there is much differently colored than what’s below it, you may also want to stockpile the surface dirt so you can hide your digging with it afterwards as well. Looks like a great patch Chris, congratulations! 👍 2 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/26580-new-nugget-patch/#findComment-280581 Share on other sites
Reno Chris
Its maybe a couple acres - lots of work to hand scrape. Still I may hand scrape a couple small areas where I have found nuggets close together. I have used geology maps and other geology knowledge I have in my head. Plus experience prospecting the general area. This is a general area I have prospected for years, but a new spot within that greater area - so I do have some experience here. 6 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/26580-new-nugget-patch/#findComment-280586 Share on other sites
