John B Memorial at Gold Basin Arizona

I would like to extend our invitation to a memorial out at Gold Basin, Arizona for our good friend and founder of WSPA Mr. John B. To take place on the afternoon of Saturday October 19th 2024 at 1300hrs (or there about)  to pay tribute to the life and legend a great man and setting of a plaque in his honor on the new 40 may he always be remembered.

come for the day or stay the weekend all and your guests are welcome, no RSVP necessary although very much appreciated here in the publicly accessible member section simply follow the Link below. A google pin can be found here with GPS coordinates for the meet up and camping area.

As always we will all meet and camp on John’s property near the helicopter landing zone, beginning on Friday October 18th thru Sunday October 20th. This gathering will be informal no host everyone is responsible for their own meals although food to share is always welcome and a piece or two of firewood would be great if you have a little to bring along to take the chill off evening campsite story time, I’d sure many have wonderful John B. Stories to share.

A big thank you to Jeff Goddard for all his work seeing to the fabrication of this fitting tribute cut in steel appropriate enough for a man of steel with a heart of gold.

A Big Man in stature and deed! The few interactions with the man the legend were fun, informative and funny all wrapped into one! Sorry I won't be able to make the memorial but I pledge to be there in spirit ... a shot of whiskey in his honor! LOL!

I'm going to be present on Saturday it will be a Great Day to meet up with ol friends and remember John 👍.

   I sure wish I could make it, I have a ton of stories about John B.  Yes, I'm "Robbery A" so there is a story for that also.  I'm recovering from a major surgery, so I don't think the timing will work out.

Hi Swegin,

   Ya, John could get worked up on certain things, but realistically he just loved to "razz" others with a little bit of good bragging rights on what he found over the years.  It was no real secret what he found over the years, he was always open, super helpful and really loved people.  

John was one of those guys where you wish you could of met him when he was younger and tagged around on his adventures for many years while we are all younger and could get around easier.  I was in my early 30's when I met John, we had a ton of good hunts/campouts together.  

He could never understand how guys like me could stay down in those gully bottoms and dig all that rubbish!   John was a typical hillside or say "patch hunter" for the most part.  He couldn't stand digging trash all day to potentially find a nugget.
