Popular Post okara gold
Went to the beach last Thursday morning to get a quick hunt in before hurricane Helene shut things down. Around 8am the weather was already getting nasty with waves coming close to the dunes and a river of water racing by, starting some erosion. I hunted this area up and down the beach and found 2 gold chains, both 14K. I was using the Manticore with 8-inch coil and sensitivity around 26. At this level it is rather noisy but bearable for me. The first solid link chain weighs 7.8 grams and marked .585. The second rope chain weighs 4.7 and both acid tested at 14K. Both were found within 10 minutes of each other and the only thing that kept me from hunting more was a local Sherriff who showed up and said the beach and road to it were being closed down due to flooding and everyone had to leave. I wasn't surprised because at that point I was the only one in sight on the beach. Also found a small piece of a broken gold ring and a piece of silver chain. I have been back twice since the storm, and everything is so sanded in that only aluminum pieces, pulltabs and a few coins are showing up. The surge brought in around 2 - 3 feet of soft sand and covered up some nice lucrative areas. Now waiting for the water to calm down and see what's on the bottom or future waves to start removing the sand. 26 1 1 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/26725-hurricane-helene-left-some-gold-chains/ Share on other sites
TTT2866
Cool! I've never found much in the way of gold chains. I cant get sensitivity above 20-22 in my areas. Were they pretty solid signals? And were they bunched up or flat/long? And did you find that the TID was on or below the line on the Manti? 1 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/26725-hurricane-helene-left-some-gold-chains/#findComment-281899 Share on other sites

You're inspiring me to go back on the wetsand this morning 🤣 as it will be rough enough to die. By the way I modified something and something more, hopefully now it is sharp enough to hit better those ghosts. 3 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/26725-hurricane-helene-left-some-gold-chains/#findComment-281900 Share on other sites
Joe Beechnut OBN
Some nice gold saves! Wonder how the hunt would have been if you could have spend a few more hours there.. 3 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/26725-hurricane-helene-left-some-gold-chains/#findComment-281906 Share on other sites
Valens Legacy
Great hunt and there should be more to find when the weather gets just a bit better. Good luck on your next outing. 1 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/26725-hurricane-helene-left-some-gold-chains/#findComment-281914 Share on other sites
TampaBayBrad
Nice job! Bet that big one looked nice in the scoop. 😛 I'm still waiting for the cops to open Pinellas beaches back up. May be a while although they allowed residents and business owners in yesterday after you go through a check point with proof. Sand and debris everywhere from the videos I've seen on youtube. Last year I didn't find squat after Idalia. They were good solid signals, both at 04 on the Manti. They were not bunched up and not more than a few inches below the surface. On the second rope chain I had about a third of a scoop of sand dumped on the beach and could see maybe 1 inch of the chain sticking out. I never looked at the TID as the audio was a definite "dig me". I would bet that the TID was on the line. 2 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/26725-hurricane-helene-left-some-gold-chains/#findComment-281929 Share on other sites

Even though now the sand is covering everything, I will not give up thinking there are more chains to be found. They will not be deep as the machine looses depth quickly on such a small target. I will take a picture of a beautiful rope I found several years ago in the water. You will drool on this one! 😊 1 1 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/26725-hurricane-helene-left-some-gold-chains/#findComment-281930 Share on other sites
