Popular Post davsgold
We spend a reasonable amount of time each year detecting, but when that is over what do we do. I spent a bit of time in Kalgoorlie Western Australia this year learning how to make Chefs Knives, it was a paid course and well worth it. The Chefs Knife I made in the course, and three other guys also learning we all made the same knife and they all turned out awesome. This is the Chefs Knife I made in the course, it's a Go Mai construction Gyuto style, the center core is 1084 high carbon steel then a thin Nickel sheet each side then clad with wrought Iron, the blade is sanded to 600 grit finish, and the handle is Octagon shape Red Morell Burl with a brass spacer and black G10 I have since made quite a few more some the same Go Mai type and then I tried a Copper layer instead of the Nickel, it is called Cu Mai when the Copper is used Anyhow this it the Cu Mai construction Gyuto style Chefs Knife and then I tried a Damascus construction Gyuto style Chefs knife which looks nice then a collection of various Chef knives I have been making cheers dave 20 5 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/26764-what-do-you-guys-do-when-not-detecting/ Share on other sites

Johnnysalami1957
Dave. They are fantastic looking! You did a great job and have a good pair of hands. Are you going to use them now? Lol! I know If I tried to make those, I'd shoot my eye out. Enjoy your new hobby! 1 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/26764-what-do-you-guys-do-when-not-detecting/#findComment-282278 Share on other sites

Yes some get used a lot some others on occasions, The one on the left in this picture gets the most use, 1084 high carbon core and Nickel sheet and then Wrought Iron cladding on the outside, Bevels ground back to revel the white Nickel line and then leaving some of the hammered forged Wrought Iron up along the top part of the blade, and the blades are finished with a Bees Wax mix Oil paste to keep them in good condition cheers dave 5 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/26764-what-do-you-guys-do-when-not-detecting/#findComment-282303 Share on other sites
kac
How many layers in that Damascus? Amazing work. When not dirt fishing I'm regular fishing. 1 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/26764-what-do-you-guys-do-when-not-detecting/#findComment-282305 Share on other sites
TTT2866
Great looking knives! I'm a sucker for a nice kitchen knife 😍 Outside of detecting I'm either working or running a couple of side businesses. Besides that, I enjoy gaming. Stickfight, Beamng, Gmod and RDR2. I've started to also dip in to watch repairs/mods which is great fun. I'm a simple man 1 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/26764-what-do-you-guys-do-when-not-detecting/#findComment-282308 Share on other sites

Popular Post mn90403
I go fishing because it is only a few blocks away from where I live. Here are the two catches of the day! One is a yellowfin croker and the other is a perch which weighs about a pound and they taste very good. 10 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/26764-what-do-you-guys-do-when-not-detecting/#findComment-282652 Share on other sites
