The loud volume cuts in and out on my headphones at the headphone end. I'm assuming a failed short (where it activates the internal amp) but just wondering if anyone else has had this issue and fixed it themselves? I've repaired quite literally dozens of UR-30's, Steelphase, and ZX Pro Gold but I don't know if I'm comfortable working on my own $230 set hahaha. Not sure if it'll void the warranty or not either. Should in theory be a simple snip and resolder?

They're only 6 months old. Anyone else had this issue and was it A) an easy repair, or, B) a fast turnaround for warranty?

Cheers.

In Australia if it makes a difference

EDIT: Here is the repair process.

I just sent in a new set of Gray Ghost originals last week. Just got an email saying they replaced the cord and have shipped them back to me. Maybe today they will be here.

I was surprised that they didn't work right out of the box. Quality control? I was kind of disappointed. I have used this brand for years.

That's a bummer. I ended up mailing mine back to the dealer I purchased them from. Seems they've then sent them back to the US. I hate to say it but going back to the Minelab yellow headphones, they are very good. Not sure if my G.G have always been faulty, but the mInelab seems way louder and has a much tighter fit 😕

Update! I got my Gray Ghost headphones back yesterday. I finally tried them today.  They still don't work. I'm very disappointed. I sent an email. No answer yet. They said they replaced the cord. That wasn't the problem evidently.

Damn that's a shame, you'd think they would at least test it before sending away. Have you checked your headphone port on the detector with another set of headphones? It could be salt corrosion in the headphone jack maybe?

The last email I sent them, they took about a week to reply and it came from a different email address, so went to my spam.

Still heard nothing about mine. The dealership I sent mine to seems to be going under as they've lost their Minelab contract, so hopefully the headphones don't get tied up in that.

Gray Ghost are very easy to work on but you do need a few tools to find the problem. And I too, very surprised they did not test them before. Do the plugs on both your head sets look and measure the same?

As far as the stock yellows, maybe the worse set of water head phones made, audio wise and because of the cheap coiled cord. Make sure to keep it well sprayed with something like 303 Aerospace spray. They are famous for dry rotting.

Just like my Amphibian II headphones that were faulty out of the box.......just fully extend the headphone adjuster and hey presto....."Made in China" label.

I'm in the process of making an adapter for my D2 headphones to suit the Manticore. I'm lazy, so just waiting for a breadboard and some wiring to turn up so I can work out the pinout a little easier. i'll probably end up just cutting the plug off honestly.

In the meantime; they were super easy to open. I'm actually very surprised at the lack of..well, anything, inside the headphones.

Some part of me was expecting more wiring, or at least some electronics? Some diodes or resistors or something? To make it look like it's worth over $260 AUD ($170 USD). As far as I know, these piezo speakers are only a few dollars each, and the ear muffs maybe $10 a set wholesale. While the plug looks to be made in-house (branded) it's still found on Aliexpress for a few dollars too.

You really do pay for the name brand..lol. Using these headphones on my D2 wasn't exactly a game-changer either.
