Dutchman4
I currently have a new NF 16" Round Mono Advantage solid body coil on my GPX 4K. Main use/application for this setup is going over areas/patches that I have hunted or cleaned out with my GPX 6K and looking for 1g+ gold at depth. I also like the fact that the Advantage coil wont respond to small lead birdshot on the surface, I dig plenty of that with the 6K. Since the 4K has only one smooth timing (Sensitive Smooth) I was told that the Advantage coil would be more stable and less responsive to ground noise and hot rocks when using the Normal and Sensitive Extra timings. Would the NF 15" Round Mono EVO coil have any pros/cons compared to the NF Advantage coil for my application? When I see the EVO coils, or any other coils for that matter, advertised as being more "Sensitive" I always assume that means more sensitive to small/shallow gold but does extra sensitivity also apply to larger/deeper gold? 1 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/26788-gpx-4k-nf-16-round-mono-advantage-vs-nf-15-round-mono-evo/ Share on other sites
Chet
My opinion is that Flat Spiral windings are more sensitive to small shallow targets. Vertical Spiral/Cylinder windings are better for large deep targets. Bunch and Square cross section windings are a compromise between Flat Spiral and Cylinder windings. Cylinder windings are less desirable because the coil housing must be thick enough to house a tall cylinder shaped coil plus air gaps between the coil winding ends and the top and bottom graphite EMI shields to reduce capacitance. 8 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/26788-gpx-4k-nf-16-round-mono-advantage-vs-nf-15-round-mono-evo/#findComment-282542 Share on other sites

You will dig with even more small items less than 1 gram. Evo. So how is the NF Advantage 16 inch round mono coil wound? Chet
I think the Advantage coils are bunch or rectangular wound. The attached video shows good results with the 15” Round EVO and the 17x13 EVO coils. The tests were run in highly mineralized Australian ground; I expect we would get better results in our US soil. Note that the GPZ 7000 is normally a slow and steady movement machine. It does not give you as sharp response on deep targets as the GPX 5000. Chet
Here is another of Benny’s videos that shows the 17x13 EVO coil doing well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1NXy6RHTJog 1 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/26788-gpx-4k-nf-16-round-mono-advantage-vs-nf-15-round-mono-evo/#findComment-282563 Share on other sites

I agree the video shows good results with the 15” Round EVO and the 17x13 EVO coils. The NFA17x11 appeared to get closer to the EVO's on the 1.0 gram and bigger targets but the EVO's appear to be sharper and louder. So it it correct to say then that the Flat Spiral wound coils (Evo) perform better all around for both small/shallow and large/deep gold? The test video's appear to support that. 2 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/26788-gpx-4k-nf-16-round-mono-advantage-vs-nf-15-round-mono-evo/#findComment-282611 Share on other sites
Redz
That 15 inch Evo is a fantastic coil and in my view perfoms better all around. It can ping some deep nuggets. They are hard to get hold of now, however, due to NF changing what they are making. 2 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/26788-gpx-4k-nf-16-round-mono-advantage-vs-nf-15-round-mono-evo/#findComment-282625 Share on other sites
