Mike Furness
I would like to talk with Bob if he is still alive. He was a mentor of mine many years ago. Thanks. Popular Post Greenshock
Hi Mike. My brother and I use to spend a lot of time with Bob. A lot of great memories were made. Mostly here in California Bob is a true gentleman and a pleasure to spend time with. I talked to his old neighbor Brent a month ago. Glad to report Bob is alive and doing well. Brent said Bob had gone to Nevada recently to collect some agate. He is up in Montana these days with his family. 14 1 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/26803-has-anyone-heard-anything-from-bob-montana-dansie/#findComment-282721 Share on other sites

I first met Bob in WA in 1993, he rode up on an old clapped out motorbike and told me “I don’t know where the hell I’m at” which is prospector code for maybe not being where he should be because he wasn’t sure where the boundary pegs were (long before the days of mobile phones and phone apps and the internet, so everything was done via printed pages from the mines department and walking and trying to find the corner posts). Both of us knew there was a lease holder in the area who was a little protective of not only his ground but also the mining companies ground we both had permission to detect on. We got on really well, I had a bit to do with Bob over the years including filming him and Chris Gholson up at Rich Hill. I made the mistake of telling him about the Kimberley region 😮, he and his brother made a killing up there (He deserved every nugget he found, he was never afraid to put in the hard yards and do it tough). So glad to hear he’s still kicking around, could someone say G’day to him for me please. 🙏 JP 10 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/26803-has-anyone-heard-anything-from-bob-montana-dansie/#findComment-282765 Share on other sites
mn90403
Mike, My big nuggets came from an area where he started detecting in Franconia, Arizona. I never met him but had occasion to exchange a few messages with him about he started detecting because he needed to rehab after a surgery/injury. I can remember seeing pictures of bottles of his gold on Chris Gholson's old forum. It would be nice to see some of that stuff on the Wayback Machine. 3 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/26803-has-anyone-heard-anything-from-bob-montana-dansie/#findComment-282786 Share on other sites
BMc
"Montana Bob Dansie assembled this fantastic collection of placer gold using various Minelab metal detectors. He dug each flake, one nugget at a time. Most of this placer material is from Arizona, but it also includes some gold from other locations. The upside down jar with the small gold contains several pounds of small flakes and pieces placer gold" by Chris Ralph. Mike Furness
BMc ... That's not the only jar Montana filled. I've seen others back in the day before he moved from AZ to CA. Always enjoyed the adventures with him. 4 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/26803-has-anyone-heard-anything-from-bob-montana-dansie/#findComment-282826 Share on other sites
