Last Camping Trip Of 2024 Campground Hunt (Updated)

Took a short 6 day camping trip to a local campground for a Halloween weekend, I've hunted this campground for the last 3 years and found hundreds of coins, even a gold ring.

It's a big place with 1100 sites, and only about an hour from my home. 

I only hunted 3 of the 6 days, about 5 hours a day so in 15 hours I did pretty good, I'm all about getting the most stuff in the least amount of time: 

172 coins - $16.15, even two wheat pennies, a 1944 and a 1958. Got a couple of toy cars, the monster truck was a foot deep and the loader is a 70's Matchbox made in England.

I put this in jewelry because I got plenty of that, 4 earrings, 3 rings, 3 charms and a big steel pendant. The watch is a child's "Gizmo" watch, I ordered a charger so I could identify the owner. 

Here's my worst trash haul, often less than the finds, but I removed all the iron from the tot lots in order to pay back the campground and maybe prevent some injuries.

It's was an incredible week, mostly warm and totally dry. We gave out candy one day, and had a blast. Shame camping season is over, but relic season will be in full swing soon.

Update: I got a charger for 8 bucks on Amazon, charged it up and got in touch with "Mommy", and it will be on its way to her tomorrow 😎

Yeah pretty much, I'll have to count them but they may number over 1,000.

Odd thing is, not only do pretty new coins sink fast there, but I'm always finding them! 🤪 They don't plow or turn the fields, yet I find more in the same places. 

They tell me I'm the only one they've seen detecting there but were that the case I'd get a lot more jewelry. 🤔

Looks like fun to me! Not as easy as digging in the beach sand, but still quite productive. I wish my GF would go camping with me, you're pics give me the urge. I'd buy a big tent and hit Ft. Desoto tomorrow if I could convince her to try it but she already has let me know where she stands on camping. ☹️

Same here Brad......my wife has made it clear to me that "she doesn't need to camp under a million stars when five will do" 😳

My RV has a heat pump, one night it did get pretty cold but one day it was 82. 🤣 Overall a fun week with the kids and grandkids. I'm not sure this was my biggest haul at that place, but it was good. Shame the jewelry was all cheap. The watch came with an obligation, I should be able to find the owner.

What we do isn't exactly camping, the RV is a 40 foot hotel on wheels. 😎

My wife loves her "Barbie Kitchen" with a full range, refrigerator and microwave. It has a bath and a half, 4 cushion sofa and a 50" TV with satellite and Roku. There are 2 more televisions, one in the garage for the golf cart and one outside, it has a queen bed with night stands and a slideout wardrobe.

The garage ramp becomes a patio. It has 3 air conditioners, one is a heat pump, there is an electric fireplace under the TV. 🤣 It also has a generator. When we were boaters we bought boats that were used because of the after sale value but there is nothing cleaner than a new RV, and you always know who was in it... When we traded in the last one we got almost what we paid for it.

My wife enjoys me going out early in the morning so she can sleep in, shower and be ready to go shopping when I get back. 😬

I'm surprised more people don't do campgrounds, I haven't been turned down hunting at one. They don't like site hunting but all other places are fine as long as you treat it like a park, this one lets me dig because I don't leave obvious holes. The tot lots are all beach sand, and I use kac's incredible Devil's Tongue Park Probe in the good grass:

You don't get the scabbard with it but I sent him one. 😁 He makes two sizes. 

The tot lots are going to have mostly junk jewelry, but if the park hosts bands and craft shows in a large area, you're going to find chains, earrings and rings along with tons of clad.

Last year I got this lil bugger out there:

It didn't look like they had a lot of bands there this year, and probably someone was hitting the field regularly.

Always check with the General Manager, permission trumps all. Luckily this one has had the same one 3 years running, he just says "sure".

I would prefer that over a tent myself! If she was game I'd buy something smaller with a/c and a partial kitchen at least. But....she ain't gonna budge on this one so it's all just a wish.
