Thanks 350 as I could not remember what the exact numbers were, but try a 10x5 coil and the number will be lower. I have found a few of the milk jars and they rang up much lower than the 24.

Great hunt and keep digging.

Headed there today, big low tide and strong SW wind. 👍 Bringing water hunting gear too! 🙂

Super day….once more!  🫡

Thanks Colonel, the 4th trip was great too! 🫡

Great hunt, man!

And good detective work isolating that small section where the old stuff lives. Local beaches here are on manmade lakes, so no chance of anything old, plus none of the erosion/concentrating action of ocean waves and tide. An ocean beach hunt is on my detecting to-do list, for sure.

This spot is where a steamboat landing was in the 1800's, it is a small town on a big river. It was once extremely popular and is coming back. The winds we had for about 3 weeks took 100 years of sand away from this one spot, I guess the other places in this 3/4 mile strip didn't have as much traffic, or not enough sand washed away, I've walked the whole length of it.

I'm thinking possibly much of this stuff washed down to the river from the town, much like our friend @stupot found in his country. 🙂

Beach detecting can be fun, but dealing with the public during prime hours (10am-5pm) gets to be a bit trifling.

People that actually want to talk about metal detecting are ok. More often than that you get people that want to "own" your experiences, and sometimes get downright hostile. 🙄 I've had that happen a couple of times. Just ignore people that yell at you, use your headphones wisely. I like the Deus WSA II and WS6 headphones because you have situational awareness, but they don't know that.

Never show anyone what you find! You could tell them about stuff you found elsewhere, but never tell them what you find there, other than in general. "Money, toys, and jewelry, but mostly bottle caps and pull tabs" is my stock answer.

Of course having a 5 foot unbreakable stick with a sharp scoop on the end keeps 'em mostly peaceful 😏

Similar to zinc cents (aka Zincolns), I suspect deterioration in the ground can lower the dTID of zinc canning jar lids.  I know I've found at least one that was about half gone due to a similar process.
