Been lurking here for quite a while but finally created an account and wanted to say hello from Northern California. I've learned a lot from the reading through the forums and hopefully will be able to contribute and share some good conversations with the detecting veterans here. Have been using the GM1000, Equinox 800, SDC2300, Axiom, and recently the GPX 6000. Ended up selling my gm1000 and kept the equinox 800 since, for me, it can find gold just as well as the gm1000, if not better, especially with the 6" coil. Plus it covers my relic detecting needs. Jim Schneringer Posted January 15 Share Posted January 15 Welcome Matt from Yuma, AZ. I'm pretty new around here and to detecting. I just watched a few of your videos and right off the bat I was thinking red dirt, oak trees, manzanita brush, green and dried grass, that has to be up by Redding, CA. I lived there for 50 years and saw a lot of that out riding dirt bikes in the area. Did some gold panning and sluicing in Shasta Lake City area for fun, but nothing serious. Kicking myself for not really getting into this hobby years ago. Have fun! Earl Posted January 26 Share Posted January 26 Hi Matt. Just watched one of your movies about getting the gold out of the rivers; great. Where are you in Northern California? I am from Antelope Valley, if you know where that is. Pity that I am not living there now; there is gold there to find for sure. Even my father worked for one of the gold mines there. Have way back when tried to get some, but it is the high desert without much water, so not so easy to do anything except search with a metal detector. Thanks for showing how you search; it should be interesting to others. I'm actually in El Dorado county but a lot of folks think I'm from Chico because I used to live there for a while and I always wear a Chico sweatshirt.
