Popular Post Lodge Scent
Hiked out to one of my colonial era sites in the woods. It was a cold morning and the ticks were just waiting for a warm body to come by. I had to stop every 5 minutes and flick them off my pant legs. Managed to sniff out some small buttons, a thimble, along with the usual lead etc. The gold gilded button I believe is a sporting button with what looks like a woodcock to me. Also dug one with a nice floral design. Also noticed a bush with some unusual berries. Turns out to be porcelain berries. A pretty, but invasive species. F350Platinum
Nice finds Lodge! 🏆 and silver. My hat is off to you for digging in those woods, but hey if that's where you find cool stuff, it's what you do. Well earned relics. Looks like it's going to be a warm November so dust off that bug repellent. 1 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/26953-woodcock-porcelain-berries/#findComment-283904 Share on other sites

strick
You guys on the east coast..we have ticks here on the west coast but not like you see over there...We lived in Virginia and Maryland when I was a kid (army brat) and I would get them constantly as I was always in the woods....I hate ticks and probably would consider a dose of Doxycycline every now and then as a prophylactic measure if I lived on the east coast lol strick 1 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/26953-woodcock-porcelain-berries/#findComment-284041 Share on other sites
JCR
Ticks aren’t near as bad in East Texas now as when I was a kid back before Fire Ants moved in. Neither are snakes, and unfortunately, quail and Horned Toads. But kill a wild hog or coyote and you better stand back. The ticks will just pour off them. 2 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/26953-woodcock-porcelain-berries/#findComment-284048 Share on other sites

I take precautions (DEET, permethrin, tuck my pant legs into my socks, etc.,) , but the only thing that really works is stripping down when I get home and checking closely. 2 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/26953-woodcock-porcelain-berries/#findComment-284063 Share on other sites
