Popular Post 1491
Quiet evening hunt with the Minelab ETrac last night. Ring was basically black until I cleaned her. Been there awhile, rang up as a steady 12-41, so I knew it wasn't another zinc penny, or even a dime. Just got back into the hobby. Previously used Minelab Excalibur, Fisher F75, White's Dual Field, and a Garrett Ace 250 (!), which found me enough beach gold back in the day, if you could ignore the false signals on saltwater beaches. Relocated my detecting journal, which has renewed my interest in relic hunting. I'm pretty sure I'm done with deep silver in parks, mastered that years ago, dug appropriate plugs with appropriate tools, got booted a few times, but the new band of MDers using long-handled shovels in parks and the number of homeless has turned me off to that scene. Nice forum you all have here. 13 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/26963-silver-ring-from-the-beach/ Share on other sites

Valens Legacy
Nice save on the ring, and it looks like the stone is fake as it looks like it may be glued in the setting. I hope it's real but it's a nice ring any way it goes. Good luck on your next outing. Solidly in there. GF gladly took the ring for her collection! 2 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/26963-silver-ring-from-the-beach/#findComment-284037 Share on other sites

Given that muriatic acid dissolves limestone (Calcium Carbonate), I wonder if that could also dissolve certain semi-precious stones.... Seems risky but it apparently worked fine for this ring. 2 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/26963-silver-ring-from-the-beach/#findComment-284051 Share on other sites
F350Platinum
According to my jewelry expert (my wife 😅) Submerged/buried opals can "white out" a bit. She offers no science, but I don't take her wisdom for granted 😬 Nice ring, congrats and welcome! 🍀 1 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/26963-silver-ring-from-the-beach/#findComment-284054 Share on other sites

I suspect it's real, but the important thing is that GF likes it. 1 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/26963-silver-ring-from-the-beach/#findComment-284070 Share on other sites
