Popular Post mn90403
Recently my wife and I went out to one of our club claims. I was using a GPX7000 with a 15" Concentric X-coil. My wife was using a 2300 she loves. We were detecting a claim that has been worked for many years. It had been dry washed back in the 30s is part of our understanding. We still find nuggets there by detecting tailing piles and digging down to a pay layer where they didn't get it all. These nuggets were found about 25 feet from where I had helped dig a hole and find nuggets about a year ago. I did that for someone else. This time I wanted some. Before I started digging, I wanted to detect the area. My wife had just been around and over it with her 2300 and didn't hear anything. I did! As you can read from the pictures, I got the first nugget of .08g at about 2" or so. It took a bit of work to get it in the scoop. Once there it was easy to hear. You just have to trust your equipment. I would like to have a picture just out of the ground, but my kids were in the car only about 50 yards away using my phone. After that nugget was recovered I wanted to clear the area before I started digging and that is when I heard a broader sound. After a couple of boot scrapes it was time to use the pick. It wasn't a hot rock/iron stone but a little nugget. I had found nuggets with this coil in the area before. It outperformed the 14" stock coil and some other Gold Bugs used by other club members. I had the sensitivity at about 15 but I could have found it with less. 12 1 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/27029-700015-x-concentric-vs-2300/ Share on other sites
GoodAmount
Nice work Mitchell! What timings were you using? The 15” CC should ping pieces much smaller than that too …and the 8” and 10” even smaller still. I find if the ground I’m hunting is heavily mineralised and variable, it’s worth running over it in HY Difficult with sensitivity bumped up as high as I can go. The 15 CC purrs along quietly, but still stays sensitive to the small stuff. I find Normal typically hits deeper targets (in mild ground), but hear the teeny-tiny shallow bits better in Difficult. 1 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/27029-700015-x-concentric-vs-2300/#findComment-284909 Share on other sites
mn90403
My settings as I remember correctly would have been HY/Normal/15 sensitivity. No smoothing. 1 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/27029-700015-x-concentric-vs-2300/#findComment-286517 Share on other sites
