Popular Post stupot
I hit this spot a few months ago, but could find the darn photos! Found them hidden on another device thank goodness. The beach is old as a resort, the pier was built in 1868 and two jetties existed from just after that time being repaired occasionally. Greenheart is a wood used in Victorian times for woodwork on the coast. It wasn't intentional to stay here, pretty much covered in sand always. That day it wasn't unusually and the hardest bit was clearing the iron debris as best I could then getting underneath the jetty with the D2 shortened as much as possible, picking up quite a few coins in the process including a halfcrown & halfpenny stuck together on the greenheart support. Bent over detecting is really hard going, coming out now & again to straighten up. Its had never been touched there were a lot of coins. At the top end all the coinage was crusty green until a few yards down then clean copper. There was a lot of scrap weights, screws, bolts & lead sections. What I noticed straight away was the silver was showing up frequently, and a lot of it was pre 1920 (.925) which is what I like best in hunting as your'e always in the right era for gold sovs & halves. A few Silver bits of jewellery & one 9ct rose gold band from 1911. Every time I dug one coin, there was nearly always two or three more. Dug at the bottom of the greenheart post finding coins all the way down. Never found the bottom at all, but must be two feet or thereabouts. If I was younger, would have cleared a lot more rocks. There must be many hundreds of coins & jewellery there. Unfortunately, all the coins were scrap including the worn out silver. Oldest was a Victoria shilling through to 1930's sixpences. Nicest piece is the Aquamarine & Marcasite ring which is unmarked but around Edwardian period. Clearing those rocks would be the answer. But a massive effort to do so unfortunately. I used a ww2 entrenching tool, its ideal in these conditions. One tide I picked out over 100 coins and jewellery, the latter i dont find much of - there will be plenty more here but its been sanded every time ive been since. It does show there's still many untouched places to find. Bending and kneeling was the main problem, plus banging my head a few times! 27 1 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/27043-old-jetty-suprise/ Share on other sites

TampaBayBrad
Man......you really had to work hard for those old pieces! That makes it all the more rewarding. That is some rough hunting grounds for sure, but productive. Don't know how long my back would last under there, but I know it wouldn't be long. 3 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/27043-old-jetty-suprise/#findComment-284795 Share on other sites

Skull diver
There's a rare unexplainable pleasure viewing pictures of those things. Not only for the open time window you've been able to catch, but the finds nature too, it something special. Maybe there's nothing better than to be on a really old presumably untouched ground. More than research, it is like a conquer. 2 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/27043-old-jetty-suprise/#findComment-284821 Share on other sites
okara gold
That's a lot of work to move those stones but the variety of coins and such must really keep it interesting. Good luck moving forward. 1 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/27043-old-jetty-suprise/#findComment-284822 Share on other sites
