Nope but I have an overwhelming feeling that they will be dropping a bombshell on us all very soon.

And what bombshell are you anticipating?

None... I was being my usual facetious and smart arse self.

Like @D&P-OR asserted I have moved on and will not be buying one.

Piss poor management and customer service XP!

I want an HF2 coil as much as anybody but it’s frozen here so I wouldn’t use it much.

As for XP customer service here in the USA, I have had nothing but very good experiences with their willingness to address problems that were covered under warranty, with turn around time and with communication in general.

I guess I am glass half full on this.  The vitriol on this seems misplaced.

To many XP D2 users' chagrin, XP never promised a small elliptical for the D2 nor marketed the D2 based on the promise of a small elliptical coil being released in future.  On Day 1 only the three standard coils were announced (9' round, 11" round, 13x11' elliptical).  When asked whether there were plans to release a small elliptical like white HF coil for D1, XP would deflect and allude to "issues" that implied it was not technically feasible or that there was insufficient demand.  This stance did indeed rub me the wrong way.

After months of deflection and silence and about 2.5 years since the D2 was released and the suprising higher prioritization of a less popular, less versatile, and expensive two-box coil, I was basically resigned to the fact that it was never going to happen, regardless of pent up demand by the D2 user base.

Then over the summer we get some unofficial statements from XP reps that something might be in the works, again without specifics or even a confirmation that it was going to be a small elliptical.

Finally, the FIRST official XP announcement at the end of November 2024 to look for the new coil in the first quarter of 2025.

Last I checked, it is still the first quarter of 2025 and that will be the case until the end of March, yet this is "Piss poor management and customer service XP!"

Huh??

Vortex has been out since before the XP announcement and there still is no announcement on when the accessory coils announced at the same time as the Vortex announcement last spring will be released. Similarly, it took over a year following the release of Manticore to get the small coil and large coil for the Manticore that were advertised with the Manticore launch to actually hit the street.  Then the surprise announcement and release of the 9" round coil, a year and half later.

I understand the frustration with XP seemingly ignoring user requests for months  to provide a small elliptical.  But geez, give XP the courtesy of actually blowing through and missing their only advertised date for this coil before you start throwing stones walking away in disgust.  I just find the "I've waited long enough and am moving on" kind of odd in this specific case as compared to what other detector manufactures pull in stringing along their customers on missed deadline after deadline and missed promise after promise.

Reality check, my D2 works just fine, amazing relic saves with it for 3 years running now.  The elliptical is at best a specialty coil for me.  I am looking forward to it, but not refreshing my phone daily and shaking my fist at XP because it isn't here yet.  It is not keeping me from going out now and making some great finds.  If XP was somehow delaying a critical update that addressed a known and detrimental performance flaw or did not stand behind their warranty, then that might justify the above statement, but I am just not seeing it for this.

I think everyone who ever experiences this from any manufacturer is frustrated by it and not willing to give a pass to XP simply because others engage in the same frustrating behavior. It's not like anyone does not complain when others do it and are somehow only picking on XP in this case. Like it or not it is a real factor for people like me. XP had a chance of getting me fully on board as having the D2 as my one full time machine and it was specifically the lack of this coil and the pretense it could not be done, even though I knew better, that made me literally give up and go another route instead.

The fact also is I refused to buy my alternative machine until they came out with the small coiI I wanted. They finally did while I was still waiting on XP for this so I switched horses and sold my D2. People can tell me I should not think what I think or feel what I feel but it does not make it any less real. You remained a devoted customer, I did not, and it was over the lack of this coil. If it had come out or had at least been promised relatively soon after the detector did I may never have sold the D2. That's real.

I think stories like this are important for manufacturers to hear, so maybe in the future they will pay more attention. Coils and the lack thereof have been central to many of my detector ownership decisions and how certain other manufacturers have treated coils has cost them what was once my vocal support. XP on the other hand I still am an avid fan and would recommend to most anyone looking for a good high end coin and relic detector that they look hard at the Deus 2, especially anyone hunting dense ferrous. I like the company and their ethics and will look for reasons in the future to get on board with them again.

I never bought one because of the lack of this coil and its small gold performance, which is mostly resolved and probably is resolved with the small coil.

I like my multipurpose machines to be multipurpose and my two purposes I mostly use are deep coins and small gold nuggets.

I think it's too late now for this generation of detectors as I've settled on a competitor unless somehow XP nails it and ends up the better machine with the smaller coil.  They did this Deus 1 to Deus 2 upgrade offer at my local dealer and the cost seems fine so it's been tempting but I'd want the full control pod not the little round thing, I never use that with my Deus 1.

------------------------------

I think my problem now is I've settled on a detector, and with the prices of these top of the line VLF's it doesn't make sense to me to have two of them, so the boss would only let me have one or the other. 🙂   I hope XP nail it with this small coil though but I think I'll wait for the Deus 3 and whatever other competing machine are fighting it out and decide then rather than change this late in the game, add to that I've been pretty disappointed with the Deus 1, not my cup of tea.
