bklein
Hunting in the wet at Laguna yesterday I really noticed when the coil got underwater/wet it really increases the weight. Guys are cutting supports off the Manticore 11” but I bet they are also removing the cover. Just removing the cover alone might be noticeable. 1 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/27107-hunting-without-coil-cover/ Share on other sites
MD4V.org
No, no, no! Scuff covers are a must. As a long time beach and water hunter you do NOT want to "sandpaper" expensive coils!!!! It's not weight it is water resistance. Build some muscle! 2 1 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/27107-hunting-without-coil-cover/#findComment-285274 Share on other sites
mn90403
More often than not with the Minelab spoke coils on the beach I'll go without. I've never worn through one. 4 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/27107-hunting-without-coil-cover/#findComment-285275 Share on other sites
1491
Push ups + pull ups + rhino liner spray on my coil. 😁 I swing an ETrac. 5 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/27107-hunting-without-coil-cover/#findComment-285286 Share on other sites
mn90403
When I went back to my SE Pro a few months back it gave me tennis elbow! It is not a condition to get so it can be more than the exercise in many cases. 1 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/27107-hunting-without-coil-cover/#findComment-285289 Share on other sites
bklein
I guess that’s what I have too. The reason I don’t use my CtX much anymore. And I use a harness even with the AQ and Manticore. Oh, the AQ didn’t come with a coil cover. 1 1 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/27107-hunting-without-coil-cover/#findComment-285290 Share on other sites

1491
I've become proficient at swinging the ETrac both left and right-handed. That helps avoid some of the injury issues. We MDers also seem to have a hard time taking breaks. 😅 1 1 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/27107-hunting-without-coil-cover/#findComment-285308 Share on other sites
Hunterjunk
My Nox coil covers were so tight that removing them for cleaning risked breakage every time . When I received the Manticore the scuff cover was so loose that every time it bumped something it would fall off . I should have cable tied it on I suppose . One day it fell off without me noticing and it's still out there somewhere . 18 months using it on the beach and in the bush without that cover does not seem to have worn it very much . With all the bush bashing I do I reckon the coil will fail at the cable entry first [ as have several of my coils] before it wears out . Maybe it will be me that will wear out first ! 4 2 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/27107-hunting-without-coil-cover/#findComment-285382 Share on other sites
