Most of the Tesoro metal detectors designed and manufactured before the Micromax series are seldom seen for sale online. Having owned most models of Tesoro's in my 40+ years of detecting I can attest to how simple they are to operate, their great discrimination, smooth audio, excellent pinpointing and durability/reliability. Bottom line is that they simply worked and produced some great and plenty-full finds.

Models such as the original metal-boxed Eldorado, Golden Sabre, Silver Sabre, Toltec 100, Pantera, Royal Sabre, etc. All were/are quite good metal detectors and still very capable of locating most coins, relics and jewelry even today.

Are these older Tesoro owners reluctant to part with such detectors? I can understand that as I loved all of the Tesoros that I have ever owned. I still own and use a Bandido II uMAX and a metal-boxed Pillar 4 which is based on a Tesoro design.

Please let me know your feelings about these classic Tesoro models.

The ones I have came across always had something wrong.

I have bought 2 and neither of them worked right.

And now with no one repairing tesoro stuff, or at least not having a bad name on the repair of Tesoro units, I think it is a big risk buying  old stuff anymore.

If you really have to have one though you should put a want ad in the classified section and see if anyone has one they would sell.

I have been picking up a few beep and digs here and there, when they do come up for sale you better jump on them fast if you are interested in them, because they do not last long if they are in good condition and priced to sale, coils for all the Tesoro detectors have become even harder to find for sale than the Detectors themselves and when the coils come up they do not last long in the classified sections of the forums either

I currently own a Vaquero and a Tejon both fantastic beep and Digs (and no I do not want to sell) LOL

for the most part users that own the older beep and digs like the Tesoros, Troy Shadow X2,X3 or X5 tend to hold onto them or price them so far out of reality that they do not sell, for instance there is a Mojave on Ebay rite now that has been there for sale for a long time why because the person that has it will not budge off of their price they have set of $999.

Below is the Mojave I am referring to

your statement rite there is the main reason I started using the older Beep and Digs recently within the last year.

for me I had become frustrated and was at the point I was ready to give up this great hobby and just quit detecting all together, I was not enjoying metal detecting anylonger up until I picked up a beep and dig and started having fun again which is what this great hobby is supposed to be about (having Fun), which has come to a scretching hault for me again, because of health issues with my wife i can no longer detect right now, and yes I started considering selling all my detectors because of it but then I had second thoughts and decided to hold on to them for when I can detect again, they are paid for and they do not eat anything.

Here I  England I do see quite regularly some of the older model. Typically the silver sabre of the early type. All these machines are getting on and they get less with time. I look for old machines almost every night of interest, so have a fair idea of their regularity.

The umax ones are much more common but still restricted to certain models over here. We didn't quite have the same widespread units as in the US. ive only seen two Mojave in the last year for sale as an example.

Later Tesoro were called Laser over here and these are the commonest. My own is the laser rapier, a ss in disguise. Tesoro cchaned names for those sold in different European countries.

I have a friend whose knowledgeable about these machines.

Good simple fun when you just want to have things easy!

Stupot, That EURO Sabre II is quite interesting with its Iron ID audio option. It appears to be based on the Bandido II uMAX of which I own one but it does not have the Iron ID option as Tesoro never did that, as far as I know, in their USA-made models. I wouldn't mind owning one of those EURO Sabre II's and I also like its black color with gold and red text.

My Rapier (Silver Sabre) has the same tone switch. Basically just single low or high. If  you need full info, contact my friend rivers rat on this forum. He's knowledgeable on all tesoros stuff.

I just sold my last tesoro yesterday. It was the Mojave model. I liked it a lot but in fear of it ever needing repair, this is why I sold it.

Nothing wrong with it now so I went ahead and let her go.

I hated to do it as I really loved their products and truly wish someone would have picked up where they left off kind of like how Garrett bought whites.

The other major problem I have had with tesoro's was the coils going bad... especially the stock brown 8 inch ones. It is easy to see if you have a bad coil too as all you have to do is swing it normally from side to side and if it will constantly chirps and beeps.....you have a bad coil

And finding replacement coils now are hard and the coils from eastern Europe cost as much as the control box is worth or more these days

What do you think about the Pillar 4 ?
