Hi, I need some advice on buying a new metal detector. I'm looking at the Nokta Simplex Ultra. I did some research and several tests showed that it goes very deep. Another video showed the Ultra beating the Minelab Xterra Pro. But I'm a little wary because it only has a single frequency of 15 kHz. Another negative point is that the previous Simplex + was not good for picking up smaller objects and detectorists ended up selling the device and buying another brand.

I'm also looking at the Nokta SCORE. It's Multi, 15 kHz but doesn't have ground balance. I looked for some tests of it, it seems that it goes to the same depth as the Simplex Ultra. Looking at the Minelab X-TERRA PRO, I noticed that people didn't like the device very much. It seems that it's very fragile and not resistant, but it has frequencies of 5, 10, 15. In the test, it lost to the Ultra.

The Vanquish, on the other hand, is Multi, but it is not waterproof and has no battery. It is more suitable for the beach and does not have a ground balance.

I was also following the GARRETT APEX, which seems to be a good option, but it is not waterproof. This one works with 5 - 10 - 15 - 20 KHZ or MULTI-FREQUENCY or MULTI-SALT. Here in Brazil, it will have a much more affordable price at Christmas, because during Black Friday it dropped a lot.

I want to use the device in the countryside, parks, squares and even on the riverbank. Since you are all veterans and have already tested this device, can you give me some feedback because I have to take advantage of the Christmas offers to buy the device. Now, with so many options on the market, it is even difficult to choose a device.

  • The title was changed to I Need Advice On Buying A New Metal Detector - Simplex Ultra, X-Terra Pro, Score, Apex

From my last discussion with a friend who is a MD dealer, the Minelab Xterra Elite seems to be an excellent machine for only 500Euros . It is a multifreq detector then it should pick up tiny targets .

Its stock coil is a big coil ( 30X22 cm ) , then check that the detector wont be too heavy for you . There are smaller coils available though

The Pro isn’t fragile, it’s a well-built solid detector. The Pro and the Ultra are both very good machines. I wouldn’t put any stock in that depth test. If you open the Pro all the way up, I think it’s a little deeper. The Ultra is extremely stable in EMI. They are both single frequencies, will have less stable ID. Have both.

The Score, being multi, will have a more stable ID.

The Vanquish has rock solid ID.

The Pro and Ultra have more audio options.

Don’t know anything about the Apex. All the others have collapsible shafts.

Can’t go wrong with any of them.

Here in Brazil, this Minelab X-Terra Elite device is not yet available.

Could you tell me if DOUBLE SCORE would be a good option because it is Multi, 15kHz. It would have more accurate IDS. Multi-frequency devices have more advantages than single-frequency ones.

Se você quer precisão, durabilidade e vida longa, pegue o Xterra Pro. Encontrei um selo de ouro e um conjunto de moedas de prata neste dispositivo. O dispositivo é muito maravilhoso e poderoso.

How does the Xterra Pro behave in the field? Have you tested it with a small object? What is the frequency you use it most? Is it waterproof? Have you submerged it in water because the Equinox does not have a good seal?

The Xterra Pro using the highest single frequency and the 6” coil was able to hear a one grain flake no problem. As for its waterproofing capabilities it’s comes with the newer housing that is more durable than the previous Equinox 800’s leaking housing.
