Currently own the Vanquish 540 and I’m extremely happy with it but I want to upgrade and I’m looking at the Xterra Elite and Triple Score. Both offer significant upgrades from the 540 but I’m struggling on which one to buy, I’m leaning Xterra because from what I’m seeing it goes slightly deeper and I like the tones better. What say you? Thanks😊

I have the Elite expedition pack. It's a very simple and nice machine. My son just gifted me a Manticore for Christmas on sale and smaller coil. So the Elite I'll use just in case I get impatient with the Manticore.

  • The title was changed to Coming From A Vanquish 540, Which One Would You Purchase?

I've been an ETrac user for many years and recently started using the Xterra Elite at the beach. Impressed with the Elite, though I like the tones of the ETrac more. Regardless, I'm digging deep targets and the IDs and tones match up well on the deepest targets.

Alot may depend on your hunting grounds! Beaches, parks, red dirt , clay etc.. a little more info may help in dialing in an upgrade for you! As I recall, the 540 has fixed GB, also price range may be a factor! Good luck whatever you choose, but the 540 will still be a great backup or friend loaner! Still have mine i bought off of Steve H!🍀👍👍

What did you use prior to the Xterra Elite. I thought about the Manticore but I’m worried coming from the simplicity of the 540, that I might be overwhelmed

Nokta Simplex, Multi Cruiser, Tesoro Vaquero, Whites V3i, MXT. Exterra Pro.  I plan on running the Manticore in factory settings for a while. There are many "settings" that the experienced uses here have for the Manticore and all the help you need to learn it when you are ready to dip your toes in.

I have a 440, 540, xt pro and the xt elite. If you liked the vanquish you'll really get along with the elite. I really like the vanquish series for the simplicity and the performance but the pro and the elite take it up a few notches. If you hunt in iron, the xterra will unmask much better than the vanquish. The id numbers are expanded on the xt more than the vanquish so that takes a little getting used to. If i had to keep just one, it would be the elite. Luckily, i don't have to choose.

I had the Xterra Pro, Equinox 800 a couple of Tesoros, a few Whites and a coupe of Nokta, Simplex+ and the Multi kruzer. The Xterra Elite is a nice machine for me. Light, submersible, if you aren't going diving at least you can wash it off. Multi and selectable frequency or single. has two coils. It would be my 1st choice but my son bought me the top of the line. Must be guilty of something! LOL. I'll just run the Manticore in Park 2 anyway. I would have never bought myself the Manticore as my hunting and time I go out are dwindling. And now it's back to crazy expensive for someone like me anyway. Maybe you can borrow one and see.

The Triple Score is a nice unit too. I think they are equal in performance and adjustments. I hate the name though. It sounds like some proclamation at a sporting event. Their next one could be the triple score with a half gainer!

Have fun looking!

Good news .  Most of the newest detectors with all the adjustments have designer programmed presets that you just select one (like your 540) and go ! The tweaking can wait for you to get the clues you need. And just ask about those here for help in understanding .

Have you found Steve's Guides yet ?
