  • The title was changed to Another Comparison Video Between The Top VLf's, With A Difference

Thanks phrunt you made my day! I only wish I had this kind of journalistic freedom when I was doing magazine metal detector field reviews during the Ice Age! 🙂 I can't find fault with anything said and illustrated in this video. It is fair, intelligent, and honest. Loren  makes excellent recommendations to the viewer and to the manufacturer. He points out with clarity something I've tried to convey for years and that is above ground tests will never equivocate undisturbed aged burials. Purchasing a detector based on what is right for you instead of having what everyone else has is another great piece of sage advice. New members to our sport and hobby would be wise to give this video author a lot of their attention.

I think Loren wrote it really concisely...and I think that everyone who is engaged in detecting will really agree with him in many things...

...the experience and results of detection with these detectors speak for themselves...

I agree with many things,,, and congratulations on finding the Viking sword...

This is probably one of the best videos I've seen since I started detecting 4 years ago. I can see that it took a long time and a lot of thought and editing to get this result. 👏

I've been on the fence about adding a Manticore to my toolbox, and it's a damn shame this didn't come out before the price increase 😅

I've never used a Manticore but this video totally explains the differences and similarities between it and my trusty D2. 🙂 I especially like the praise of the audio nuances in High Square, I've been much more successful over the period I used the Equinox 600 with the D2, largely because of audio, and not wasting time digging identifiable crap.

I've always been on about the "brassy" or distorted audio when encountering aluminum. It can be heard in Pitch or full tones High Square, I have never been a fan of PWM, so I have no other opinion.

While I don't think I'll ever find a Viking sword, there is one place I'd like to find a sword that was attached to half the crossguard I dug. I think I "found" it once, a long iron object, but I tend to ignore iron for the most part.

And the other side:

Perhaps I'll get some windfall, but I hope that the Manticore goes on sale again. I think it will be great to have both.

This is a "must watch" for the novice or the seasoned detectorist, I just wish he put more in about the Legend. 🤔

I have enjoyed all his VLF video's, very well thought out and he usually debunks all the hype out there in utube land.

Thanks for sharing.

I don't normally care much for these sorts of videos but this is one with a difference, it's not swinging some detectors over some planted objects in someone's backyard with a few nails in the mix to prove one is better than another, it goes into some detail about features and benefits of said features.  He explains the audio options well and the benefits to them, Loren the maker of the video is a highly intelligent person and also good at explaining features in simple terms, so vastly different to normal comparison videos that I have no interest in.

Well worth the watch.

I looked  at several of  his videos in researching my Manti book.  I liked his description of the Manti as an "alertive" detector--well said.  I've also pointed out the "iron test above ground" problem --I stated it as the fact that "the ground forms part of the signal:.  A great run down  and a lot for the new hunter to learn from there --just the things he choses to discuss are of value.   He's also dead right to focus on the Manti's processing--it's strong suit for sure.  The Legend is a slower weighted machine all around although this does give it some advantages--particularly  around black  sand.   Also a strong processer.

@cjc Clive,  What do you mean by the Legend is a slower weighted machine & how does that relate to Black sand?
