The Legend is a slower weighted machine all around although this does give it some advantages--particularly  around black  sand.   Also a strong processer.

To be 100% factual. The Legend failed against the Equinox 800-900 and Manticore on my Black Sand beaches. There were no settings that would equate to better depth with the Legend.

To be 100% clear, what settings were you using on your Legend and what software version.

Fully updated last year.....you were helping me with settings and several others. It was the same time we had the Manticore and 900 here. [it is somewhere in the forms]

I’m not a black sand saltwater beach hunter so I really don’t know how I could have helped you very much. The latest software update was October 11, 2024 which included Beach mode improvements.

We tested prior to this date. Too bad they did not make a better detector sooner.

I haven’t tested it yet personally but the tendency to call deeper non ferrous targets as ferrous way too early has been significantly improved in the final V1.17 software at least on milder saltwater beaches according to several YouTube accounts. That tendency has been improved for turf hunting too which I have tested.

I looked  at several of  his videos in researching my Manti book.  I liked his description of the Manti as an "alertive" detector--well said.  I've also pointed out the "iron test above ground" problem --I stated it as the fact that "the ground forms part of the signal:.  A great run down  and a lot for the new hunter to learn from there --just the things he choses to discuss are of value.   He's also dead right to focus on the Manti's processing--it's strong suit for sure.  The Legend is a slower weighted machine all around although this does give it some advantages--particularly  around black  sand.   Also a strong processer.

Yes ...Loren points out that iron can be treated differently when testing a detector outdoors... where it is not affected by the terrain... which is very true... and that is what I encounter in my heavily iron-laden terrains... really regularly...

There are often situations where several pieces of iron under the coil in the terrain affect the detector... which has "soft discrimination" very significantly... and you dig up a lot of iron... mainly in terrains where there are very few non-ferrous targets... so the ratio of non-ferrous targets to excavated iron can be very large..

That is why I prefer a detector program with "reasonably hard discrimination." - but without a significant loss of separation properties... so I am able to separate the signal and still really evaluate the signal as non-ferrous or ferrous... and not dig it or dig it accordingly,,,,

@midalake  Dave, Nokta came out with the dt/ deep target adjustment after your trial of the Legend.  If you get the chance to re try it with/using dt, I know you will find it much more effective.   Same with the Rutus Versa with the latest NC 4.7/4.72 soft ware.  Much more effective in mineralization.

@cjc Clive,  What do you mean by the Legend is a slower weighted machine & how does that relate to Black sand?

I mean that overall the M1, M2 settings are lower FQ weighted and thus they are well suited for tough environments that require a slower, more thorough signal.  Something like the NOX for example is faster more lively and therefore likes the foils more.
