The weather is freezing windy and snow is in the forecast, so I decided to play with my detectors

2 weeks ago I picked up a Tejon from the original owner, who bought it new in 2011 put in the original box and stayed in the closet

I put it together, put batteries in it, and I am very impressed with it's performance. It has the stock 9x8 coil and air test nickels in the 12" range and that is with rusty nails around

I remember years ago I had a Tejon and I could get a little extra depth by cranky up the threshold in DISC mode

I was reading on some of the forums about power balancing the Tejon, but couldn't find any information on how to do it, does anyone on this forum know how it is done

Tom-----If you can find some of Montys old posts he discussed the procedure of what he called "power balance" (including on the Tejon).

Thanks for the info Dale, I will do that. Monte was definitely the expert on Tesoro's, to bad he is no longer with us, he was a great asset to the hobby

Yeah---He liked the Tesoros (especially with the small coils).---He liked the Nokta CoRe to (with 5" coil).-----About the last hunt I can remember with was with him, Gregg, my wife & myself.-----He could only hunt about 15 minutes & had to rest.---It was sad---he wanted to hunt but the body said "no".-----------Del

Power balancing only worked on the Vaquero and Cibola. It doesn't actually increase dept but it does make faint signals louder much like the audio response on the D2.

Tejon's circuit is different. You can however fiddle with the gb and maybe squeeze a little more depth out of it.

I typically run mine with the sensitivity as high as I can. Sensitivity effects the audio response of the targets so lower sensitivity will drop tiny signals. This is handy in tougher grounds. Sensitivity on Tesoro's is just that and it doesn't effect depth like Gain does on other machines. Sensitivity if too low can lose some small fringe targets so just drop it down as you need so it doesn't chatter.

To power balance the Tejon, Vaquero and I am sure a few other Tesoro's, like the Bandido 2 Umax

you balance it spot on in all metal mode then you place the Tejon in Disc mode just to the point it comes out of all metal mode (you will no longer hear the threshold) once there you start rotating the GB knob counter clockwise which is towards positive ground balance (do this slowly) keep moving the GB knob until you hear a little blip in the audio then stop the moment you hear that little blip then move the GB knob back ever so slightly the Tejon will be slightly negative ground balanced at that point and you are now power balanced

from my understanding what the power balancing does is to balance out the GB between all metal and Disc

there is also something they say is super tuning the Tesoros to gain depth also

I have tried the power balance thing and both my Vaquero and Tejon seemed to gain some extra depth have not had a chance to try the super tuning yet on either the Tejon, vaquero or my Bandido 2 Umax due to my wife being very very ill

DSMITH thanks, I will give it a try. I have played with the supertune, or what I think is supertune by turning up the threshold, while in DISC mode and it does gain depth in air test

My wife of 45 years says I look like a mad scientist setting at the table with a bunch of equipment buzzing and beeping

Sorry to hear that your wife is very ill DSmith.-----Good info you gave on the Vaquero & Tejon---thank you.
