Anyone know why both these companies have stopped making several of the larger spiral wound coils almost at the same timeframe? Is there still not a demand for these coils.

I was told they were short on the 6000 coils because of a parts shortage, but I am hoping that we can keep supporting the 5000 out there with the larger coils options.

X-coils is still going strong though.

X-coils is still going strong so thought maybe there was some internal issues going on with Coiltek & NF…

As a dealer surely you can inquire directly?

Yes, I can inquire again, but have had no responses from NF though, maybe they were down for the holidays. Coiltek seems they are having hurdles with getting a part for the Goldhawk coils. Would prefer to hear it from the horses mouth first but am getting very little feedback.

Got to love those security chips!  No other part of the Goldhawks would be causing issues with supply.

NF and Coiltek have been dropping legacy GPX coils for a while now, slowly supplying less and less models.  If you look at Coiltek's Elite series, flagships for the GPX I'd say 3 of the 6 models are recently discontinued.  X-coils discontinued all their legacy GPX coils a year or two ago.  Hopefully NF reinstates some of their coils as MK2 models as new pickings are getting pretty slim for the GPX, Detech is still going strong though.

Perhaps they just don't sell enough anymore to justify making them and would rather focus on the coils selling well.  That's mostly why X-coils dropped them, big sales of GPZ and slow sales of GPX.

Simon, all good points, I guess I forget how old the GPX 5000 is now and at some point it’s probably just best to move on.

Or Maybe they are working on making a new series like the MK-2 which is definitely a more improved coil than the legacy Sadie.

I don't have any insider information,  but it seems peculiar that both coiltek and NF both are ceasing further development of coils for Minelab detectors such as gpx line pre 6000, in such a short time frame from each other. In my opinion, I think they are in current development of a replacement for the 7000 and they don't want any more aftermarket coils for gpx series out there, because the coils on the older detectors may prove the new technology in the upcoming detector, not as big of an advantage as they will be pushing. With the success of talented techs such as Mick with detectronics Australia, older detectors are killing the gold Finds, outmatching the 7000 and 6000. I sense they need to mitigate any further release of coils on earlier detectors being tested against the new upcoming machine proving that the new upcoming technology is minimal. People would be pissed about this. On another note doesn't all these companies have restrictions on how powerful they can make their detectors? I don't know! Maybe Steve might know.

Morning Reese,

Thanks for your feedback!

Yes I can see that could very well be a concern for Minelab about trying to one up the mods and I hope they are not requiring some market controls from their coil support partners. We all know the Evo’s coils are a key attribute for these GPX-5000’s markets to remain in place, similar to why the X-coils are keeping the 7000 sales alive.

I have no idea how many legacy GPX detectors are still out there being used but from my recent sales of them there’s still a decent demand, even a big following of them and every purchaser always gets a Evo coil or two with it. Evo coils are pretty much sold out everywheres now with a lot of back orders in place, even trying to find one on the second hand market is becoming increasingly difficult, so customer demand is still definitely not an issue here.

It’s sad to see that customers who just bought a new expensive GPX 5000 cannot get decent large coils for it currently.

I think sales were not enough to justify the expense of production, especially when it appears they struggle to keep up with making the coils where there is big demand.  People with the modded detectors and Algoforce which is likely the biggest market were finding the existing models not ideal.  We've seen the modded detectors not work well with the EVO's and hence the MK2's started to be tested adjusted to work better.  Algoforce it is better to use smaller coils with the detector being tuned to find the smaller gold that may be still out there so Algo owners won't be buying bigger coils.

So, we see new coils like the Mk2 Sadie appear, suits both the modders and the Algo owners.  The 12x8" is being redone too I believe and NF is currently saying they still produce the 12" and 12x8" in limited quantities.  The Coiltek's seem to work fine with the Algo without the need for a second revision.

The Mk2 Sadie should have been introduced years ago, the original is fairly lacking compared to modern wound coils, but I guess this new windings style is only something more recently learnt by NF.  I only recently bought a Sadie just before the MK2 came out, I can't see me ever using it.  I should have bought the 9" Elite instead.

Coiltek still have a decent range and have kept their smaller coils that suit the Algoforce.

14" Goldstalker DD, 22" Gold Stalker Mono, 22' Goldstalker DD
14" Anti Interference, 17x11" Anti Interference
9" Elite, 14" Elite, 14x9" Elite.

But if you really want a big range of available sizes, Detech is now the best in the business, they have a lot available, even 32" Concentrics and a wide range of smaller to larger size monos, DD's and AI coils.

People are going to be comparing everything to the new model Minelab regardless of if its still manufactured.  You can bet there will be modded GPX's and 7000's with X-coils etc all going up against the new model to see how well they really do, like in the past it will probably drive a lot of sales to the modded detectors and aftermarket coils, the 6000 sure did, lots decided rather than buying a new detector they'll get another coil or two instead for the GPZ or their 4500/5000 modded, far cheaper path to take and they can largely emulate the 6000's small gold performance with a smaller GPZ coil.
