HardPack
With the Garrett Goldmaster 24K, ground balance 30, been able to pick out the “hot rocks” with a 02 TID. Iron and squares nails have jumpy TID’s. Over a nickel size target at 3 to 4 inches the 24 K will indicate a higher mid TID. I am starting to think it wise to dig a consistent 03 TID over a similar size target as possible golden at 5 to 7 inches. What do you think? 2 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/27503-gm-24k-tid-on-deeper-targets/ Share on other sites

I’m still learning about it, but there are others who can answer- @Jim McCulloch or @Gerry in Idaho , what is your opinion about this? (24k owners would like to know! 😉) 3 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/27503-gm-24k-tid-on-deeper-targets/#findComment-293341 Share on other sites
Gerry in Idaho
The 24K is a smart VLF detector that has features I wish other gold detectors had. You are correct about most Hot Rocks with a TID # 02. When you say "over a nickel size target 3 to 4" the 24K will indicate a higher mid TID". Are you referring to Hot Rocks or square nails or other? Most gold I have recovered, when using ID system, it reads higher #'s, even small nuggets. But an ID system is not 100% and any target of gold not matter even if a 1 pounder, can on a rare occasion read as Iron if around enough bad soils and or hot rocks or at depth. Just the same as if using any other ID detector. The ID system is great for many sites, but never rely 100% on ID. What I pay attention to is the sounds of detector, more than ID. Here's a fantastic video to help you and others learn the features of the 24K. 4 1 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/27503-gm-24k-tid-on-deeper-targets/#findComment-293527 Share on other sites
HardPack
1 hour ago, Gerry in Idaho said: Are you referring to Hot Rocks or square nails or other? Thanks Gerry, I was referring to any non-ferrous targets at depths greater than 4 inches on a site saturated with basalt hot rocks with very little if any modern metallic trash. The use of puffer dry washers suspected by the number of bellows tacks detected. Judging from the amount of material excavated, the old-timers were definitely bagging something off the slopes. The gold may be to fine for detection; no quartz specimens to date; the site may be better suited for dry panning and dry washing. The actual ground mineralization is not that hot but the abundance of basalt hot rocks even when discriminated out are still in the ground and masking. So to answer my own question, if it is a consistent TID, hi, mid or lo, I dig it. 2 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/27503-gm-24k-tid-on-deeper-targets/#findComment-293531 Share on other sites
Gerry in Idaho
HardPack, With the amount of Basalt Hot Rocks you are mentioning and small nuggets at 4", all bets are off, if I was using an ID capable VLF detector. Sometimes you just have to Dig It All, or walk away to a different site until you can try it again with a PI. 3 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/27503-gm-24k-tid-on-deeper-targets/#findComment-293606 Share on other sites
