nicknameswayne
Is it normal to have hot rocks ding at 26? Sometimes 27. The ground is highly mineralized, iron rich, and im not sure how to zone out the hot rocks or what to do. I'm looking primarily for gold and silver. Ive tried several different modes. Jim Schneringer
The Legend is very flexible. You can try to ground balance over the top of the specific hot rock. Might have to do it a couple times. Sometimes it helps. If the hot rocks are nearly always 26/27 and enough to mess with you, you can notch filter those specific numbers out. Lastly, if you don't want to filter them out, you change the tone and loudness for those specific ID numbers. 2 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/27522-hot-rocks-and-ground-balance/#findComment-288949 Share on other sites
Steve Herschbach
Hot rocks can vary a lot, but seem to present an issue with multifrequency detectors by often reading near the nickel range. They may not ground balance out unless you go to single frequency or lower the sensitivity a lot, or both. That ends up giving up a lot of power, so as the previous poster noted sometimes either ignoring them or notching them is the only viable solution. Of course nuggets that read the same are lost if you do that. And this, my friend, is why many prospectors use PI detectors, which handle most hot rocks far better. Even a PI will struggle with the worst rocks in some locations. 2 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/27522-hot-rocks-and-ground-balance/#findComment-288952 Share on other sites
Zaj56
Isn't this why the second ground balance was added...to snuff out hot rocks? I'm talking about the Legend Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/27522-hot-rocks-and-ground-balance/#findComment-288982 Share on other sites

And Beast mode is definitely not a gold prospecting mode even though it is located as an option in the Gold Field mode. 1 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/27522-hot-rocks-and-ground-balance/#findComment-289001 Share on other sites
