Popular Post 1491
Introduced the XTerra Elite to some relic hunting as a reward for its recent beach performance. 😃 Hunted a now-abandoned 1930s picnic area, which is also a local trailhead with access to National Forest. Only space for a few cars, I run into the occasional quail and bow hunter back here. This spot is practically under the largest power lines in the region. Machine ran smooth in Park 1 at 15kHz with sensitivity near max. Tons of pulltabs and shotgun shells. Picking through trash, I managed to find this 1973 Timex 'Marlin' under a big oak tree. It still works! It takes a licking and keeps on ticking, as the old phrase goes. I'm somewhat of a watch collector, and like the old mechanical wind watches. Might have this one refurbished. Later, I moved up into a large valley where old topographic maps show two different structures. Modern junk disappeared, but so did most other targets, except iron grunts. A couple of wheaties and older bullets were the highlights. Managed to nail a 1940-S wheat dead center with my pick. Thanks for looking. - 1491 15 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/27541-for-wristwatch-fans/ Share on other sites

F350Platinum
Great stuff, 1491 🏆 I would definitely resurrect a watch that still works after 50 years! 🤯 Your bullets are interesting, the 3 ringer is similar to those I find here, I think .45-70. the two ringer has all the features of a Gardner, but seems a bit small... Excellent. 2 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/27541-for-wristwatch-fans/#findComment-289264 Share on other sites
PI-Man
Great finds! The watch wins it for me and it still works. They do not make stuff like they used to. I remember that old ad slogan. 2 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/27541-for-wristwatch-fans/#findComment-289276 Share on other sites
1491
Added a blue leather strap to the watch. Time-wise, it loses about a minute per day. Not bad for a 52-year old watch that had been sitting under an oak tree at 3900 feet through snow, rain, fire, and heatwaves for a long while. Polishing up the crystal a little more each day. - 1491 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/27541-for-wristwatch-fans/#findComment-289342 Share on other sites
