Popular Post Fugio
I was hoping to get some more finds out of this site before making a post but looks like that might be a while with the snow and frozen ground. Right before we got this nasty weather I came across a pretty amazing site. All of these were found on Dec. 28th and 29th. Everything was in an area no bigger than about 150 square feet and it's loaded with iron. I know there's still a lot more to find there so its killing me not being able to get back out there. One of the liberty caps is clearly a 1794 with the lettered edge and I believe the other is a 1793. It definitely has the vine and bars edge but not much detail on the front or back. I believe the vine and bars varieties were only made in 1793. There are also a lot of great relics including a worked piece of flint and some pottery. This site put a serious dent in my bucket list already and I can't wait to see what else it has to give up. 5 - KG's (1-1778, 4 no dates) 2 - New Jersey's (1-1786, 1-no date) 2 - Liberty cap (1-1794 "One Hundred For A Dollar" edge, 1-1793 vine and bars edge) 1 - 1809 half cent 1 - 1786 Vermont 14 1 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/27613-a-few-coppers/ Share on other sites
JCR
Fantastic! The site must have been a tavern or other public place. I’m looking forward to more of your finds and some back story on the site’s history. 2 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/27613-a-few-coppers/#findComment-289870 Share on other sites

Joe D.
Fantastic spot🤯, no doubt! Think I would be lighting a circle of smudge pots around the site to thaw it out, or maybe a propane torch!...🤔😆jk Hope you can clean that site out, but you may have to remove a bunch of iron, to get all the reachable and masked targets! Sifting may also net you many non-metallic targets! Good luck and keep us updated!🍀👍👍 1 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/27613-a-few-coppers/#findComment-289876 Share on other sites

I don't know much about this specific site, but I do know the area I'm in had a lot of activity during the Whiskey Rebellion...I'd like to think it had something to do with that! It's absolutely killing me waiting to get back out there, I'm sure you all understand! My next couple of visits will be to remove iron. I've worked sites like this before and there is always something good hiding under the iron. On 1/30/2025 at 3:29 PM, Bob S. said: Fabulous! Now that's my kinds of finds and venue! I spent a lot of time searching a 400-acre area hoping to come across a site like this. A lot of that time was spent swinging and not finding much. I did find and few musket balls and random flat buttons, so that kept me feeling like I was in the right area. Anyway, I was swinging a Golden Mask 4Xtreme when I found the site and when I went back, I took my DeepTech Vista X. These two machines are excellent in heavy iron and the finds are about split between them. Next few trips will be with the Vista X because it has all metal. This is definitely a "dig it all" site, I don't care how long it takes. Once the iron is cleared out, I'll go for the deep stuff. 😁 6 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/27613-a-few-coppers/#findComment-290345 Share on other sites
