Nice work there F350! I've dug plenty of shoe buckles over the years but still waiting to dig that very early style. Great find.

Thanks Lodge,

This place has quite a bit of later history (1800's) but I'm at a loss as to why this one spot has stuff going back to earlier times. The county lost a lot of records in a fire in the early 1700s.

The square-hole item is part of a drawer-pull from old furniture, like a writing desk, cabinet etc. I believe the technical term is an 'escutcheon'. They are fairly common finds here in the U.K. It's likely the old furniture would be broken up and used as firewood, then the ashes scattered on the field, including all the screws, hinges, etc.

Thanks Pimento! Most likely brought here from there. There are random fire pits in the field, I'm always finding kettle bits and oyster shells.

Nicely done! You have a beautiful place to detect!

Thanks 1491!

It is, it's a 200 acre farm surrounded by water on 2 sides. 🙂 It had two old houses on it, and two barns for horses. Lots of horse racing and equestrian stuff a long time ago. It's less than a mile from my house.
