Popular Post F350Platinum
Sorry for all the posts, I'm getting "Trigger Time" on the Manticore. 😎 Headed to a beach in a few days, and will alternate with my Deus 2. Today was the complete opposite of yesterday, yesterday's 38 was 57. Cloudy was sunny. There was some wind but it was great, no handwarmers needed. This is a 200 acre farm near my house, I can hop in my golf cart and drive there in minutes. It's surrounded by river, comes to a point on it. The farm itself is 80 feet above the river level, so there are dangerous ravines everywhere. Walk to the treeline and it suddenly drops off 60 feet or more. 😬 Today I searched an area I had been over most of last year, I got a lot of buttons and a piece of Spanish silver. I wondered if the Manticore could pull anything else out of it, but I dug so much getting to that spot I only got a bit of it done. What I did go over again there was nothing. I sure dug a lot of trash, but Freestyle is really a great relic program, very little aluminum: Mostly lead and a couple of old Schrader valve stems. Finds were fairly scarce but old for sure, a mix of 1700s and 1800s. This farm had two houses on it, a few barns, and an equestrian area and racetrack. Thimble, buckles and bits and other odd metal stuff. Got a gold plated collar stud and 7 buttons, the first a silver wash button that I thought was a coin, 3 Tombacs, 2 brass and one half of a cufflink. Not an incredible day, but a nice one. My next post will come from a beach trip! 😎 12 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/27663-old-and-older-pt2/ Share on other sites
rvpopeye
I have some advice for anyone planning to detect within a mile of 350's place. Just keep going. 🥸 Looks like you're having fun with your return to Minelab territory 350 . Try adjusting the setting that sends some of that warmth uptah will ya ? My 800 is standing over in the corner stomping it's coil and whining "I want to go to a beeeeeeeeeeeach "....😭 2 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/27663-old-and-older-pt2/#findComment-290299 Share on other sites

Good thing we just got a Baby Bronco last spring. 1 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/27663-old-and-older-pt2/#findComment-290300 Share on other sites
stupot
Brilliant stuff! I recognise a lot of the material you're finding as the same as i get here in England. The difference is that it means a lot more to you as its really old there! Dig deep my friend 1 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/27663-old-and-older-pt2/#findComment-290302 Share on other sites
1491
Nice digging! When you go to the beach with Deus and Manticore, flag / mark some signals found with each and then compare the signals, tweak the settings, compare again. Take notes, maybe a video, have fun. It's a more robust way to compare machines than saying machine X found about the same or more as machine Y. The X vs Y finds is how most people compare machines, but it's hard to quantify search effort, making realistic comparisons difficult. - 1491 1 1 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/27663-old-and-older-pt2/#findComment-290304 Share on other sites

You might find this interesting. 🤔 This area was discovered in 1607 by "Captayn John Smith", and was settled about 1640 by people who came down from Maryland for the most part, and some from Jamestown. I was hunting a farm along the Potomac River and came upon this: You should recognize it as a 1607 King James 1 sixpence. Half, anyway. 😅 I found other items with it, and put them all together in this display box: I reunited both halves of the buckle about a year apart. These are my oldest finds and probably will stay that way, really how much older can you get unless someone dropped a Spanish coin? Captain Smith made another voyage up the Potomac in 1608, so quite possibly this all is from that voyage. I retrieved these relics from private property I have permission to. I am fortunate indeed to live where I do and have such generous landowners. 🙂 I've got another farm that was established around 1640, so I get lots of stuff from there as well! 4 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/27663-old-and-older-pt2/#findComment-290311 Share on other sites

I'd like to do some of that, maybe one of my buddies will have a Manticore while I'm using the D2, or a D2 when I'm using the Manticore. I'm only going for 4 days, so I'm really just going to hoist the pirate flag. 🏴☠️ I want to get all the stuff I can get in the least time. I'm putting my wife and dog up in a Hilton, so I'll be expected back in the afternoon for shopping, exploring, and food. 🤣 I'll probably do some field and beach stuff when I get back! 1 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/27663-old-and-older-pt2/#findComment-290312 Share on other sites
