I have read very good reports on it.  Jack the Templar & Top Digin, both on You tube have some good test videos.

Someone recently asked me about the Golden Mask 4Xtreme and here was my response to them:

I have the GM 4Xtreme with the 5x7, 9.5, and 13x11 coils, but have mostly used the 9.5 so far. The detector is very light and well balanced and can be swung all day. And I think it is an excellent analog detector. I mostly hunt colonial sites with a lot of iron. It performs really well in these situations. I think it has excellent discrimination and the non-ferrous targets really stand out in iron, so this detector is very capable of unmasking and separation. A couple of important things to know about this detector:

1. The discrimination is mostly in the iron range. Set at the minimum it will still knock out small iron and separate/unmask very well. Set at the max it will knock out up to small foil but will start to lose its separation/unmasking abilities. The default setting is 3 and I found it is very good here. So, while you cannot discriminate larger foil or pull tabs, the audio is very nuanced. It's easy to identify when the machine is falsing on iron because it gives a very clear iron tone before/after a choppy good tone. You can also identify aluminum/pull tabs because the tone has a "staticky" quality to it. When it is separating/unmasking a very strong good signal comes over top the iron tone (if in two tones, which is what I like to use).

2. Depth - slightly better than the latest digital/SMF detectors with similar sized coils. Maybe 10-15%.

3. Power level does not need to be set at max for good depth. The depth difference between min/max is only about 1/4 inch, maybe up to 1/2 inch depending on soil conditions. I like to set it just below where it starts to give chatter and falsing, usually somewhere between 6 and 8.

4. Ground balance - Very stable. Unless you have very hot ground you can leave it in the "HR" (Hot rocks) zone. I typically leave it here. I've manually ground balanced the detector and it usually falls just above the "HR" zone. I've noticed no difference in performance either way. But that could be different depending on soil conditions.

I hope this helps.

Take care and good luck on your next hunt!

It says GoldenMask USA but it don’t show a dealer here. It’s shown you can buy it but I don’t believe I’d want to give out a credit card number out.
Maybe Richard at Backwoods Detectors would be interested in becoming a dealer. He’s already got Deeptech and this would give all of us the opportunity to spend more money.haha

There are no dealers for Golden Mask in the U.S at one time there was three dealers here in the U.S for Golden Mask but Golden Mask dropped all three dealers for some reason

As for Richard at back Woods Detectors I have asked him several times if he would consider becoming a Golden Mask Dealer

Personally for me I like the Golden Mask detectors a LOT and would have no issues in ordering from Golden Mask directly again, if it were not for the risk that comes with the U.S Customs, which destroyed a 18 inch coil I ordered directly from Golden Mask for my Golden Mask 7 detector.

  • Thanks 1

Van Rijn,

Today I just saw Golden Mask detectors on eBay from a dealer in Texas, I think it was. He's asking at least $200 over the price that both the Golden Mask company and Thrace detectors in Bulgaria are selling theirs for. I've been dealing with Thrace Detectors for a couple years, usually buying Detech coils and they are great to deal with and have an excellent website selling the full range of Golden Mask Detectors. Shipping is reasonable and nothing was ever detained in Customs.

can you provide a link please

I will tell you when you order from Golden Mask directly the shipping is not cheap, so if the dealer is asking $200 over what the price is from Golden Mask for the detector is he really that much more ???, he may be trying to recoup some of his shipping cost

A lot of people seem to forget about the shipping cost from a foreign country to the U.S, the detectors themselves are not expensive from Golden Mask until you include the Shipping Charges on top of the detector cost, for me to get the two Golden Mask detectors I ordered directly from Golden Mask the shipping fees and other fees were 187 Euros which is roughly $195 U.S dollars just for shipping
