Stopped into a prospecting shop that I had not been to before and out of the blue I ask the person running the shop if they might have any Tesoro coils they would sell, the person behind the counter says he has two, goes back to one of the shelves in the store and pulls out two coils a 3x6- 4 pin Elliptical Concentric (Delta) coil and also a 12x10 5 pin Wide scan (Epsilon) Coil, I snap up the 3x6 and ask what they want for it $35 and the 12x10 $45 so I picked up two coils for $80

As I stated that 3x6 is a Extremely rare little coil which will be great in very trashy areas when i am swinging either my Tejon or my Vaquero

with the Tesoro coils becoming extremely hard to find for sale you have to jump on them when you find them for sale, and it goes to show you never know unless you open your mouth and ask if someone has any coils laying around that you might be looking for

that same shop had several Tesoro detectors for sale also

  • The title was changed to Picked Up A Really Rare Tesoro Coil

Goodness me! That's got to be ones of the rarest coils I've seen... non existent here in England.  I always look to see what's for sale,  but hardly anything on the coil front. Best 2 I've had are the couple of troy 7" of each config.

Good man, don't stop looking 🙂

That is probably a coil for the Tesoro Diablo II or Lobo SuperTRAQ. The Diablo II and Lobo SuperTRAQ were 17.5 kHz models designed by Dave Johnson. The Tejon also runs at 17.5 kHz and these coils should also work on it. This is somewhat confirmed by an old review of the Tejon when it first came out that said "Tesoro offers additional search coils for the Tejon including round and elliptical concentric and widescan coils ranging in size from 7” to 11” that further enhance its versatility." (Emphasis added on the elliptical part).

The same coils were made for the older original Diablo and Tesoro Lobo designed by Jack Gifford himself. These were totally different 20 kHz detectors and the coils made for them will not work on other models. The plug on them is reversed from the Tesoro norm to only fit those models. If your plug looks like the one below, it is the 17.5 kHz coil and should work fine. If it has male pins instead it is the older 20 kHz coil won't work. Nice find!

Mine has the same connector as the one in your photo and the same coil connector as the coils I have for my Tejon and Vaquero.

Even though its not listed in the coils list you can see that little coil is pictured in the photo actually it is listed in the coils list for the Super Traq as a 7 inch elliptical concentric

I have that one, too. Jack Gifford literally called it the "surfboard."
