F350Platinum
At the very least least know and respect the laws regarding this hobby. 5 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/27741-jail-time-for-digging-where-youre-not-supposed-to/#findComment-290891 Share on other sites

I've spent wasted hours installing cameras, a chain across an entrance with signs, and phone conversations with local law enforcement, filled holes that I could stand in up to my knees (including one where some bright spark had obviously detected an underground cable coming into the property), repaired damaged fences and removed countless empty beer cans and rubbish. The most recent incident just a month or so ago was some idiot who set one of the remote security cameras off while digging a hole right over where the underground storm water pipe runs down our property and I called the cops before he smashed the damn thing. All this and more because of numbskulls who think they can detect on private property for a nugget in ground where they were found 9 to 12 feet deep 150 years ago. I can honestly say I have never detected on private land without permission, and I stay well clear of cultural heritage sites. I hope the cops throw the book at him. 5 1 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/27741-jail-time-for-digging-where-youre-not-supposed-to/#findComment-290955 Share on other sites
Earl
Yes, this is good. In England, they are destroying metal detecting, finds have a great value, and it is good for the 'bad' people. The mostly go at night there, but some fields are so far from anyone they just have a lot of fun detecting. 1 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/27741-jail-time-for-digging-where-youre-not-supposed-to/#findComment-291341 Share on other sites
lostmypassworddude
Oh man, it really sucks when detectorists disrespect archeological sites. Follow the rules, fill in the holes and be a good example. It's the only way we will save our hobby and keep areas open to us all. When I started detecting 43 years ago it wasn't as popular as it is now, it's gone mainstream do to many factors, especially youtube. Hate to preach, but take the trash you find with you, fill the holes ans be cool. 2 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/27741-jail-time-for-digging-where-youre-not-supposed-to/#findComment-291343 Share on other sites
