I know that XP Deus manufactures their product in France. I do not know about Minelab---maybe in Australia. Just a question that I have comes to mind. How can and why did Minlab sell its Manticore a few months ago for 500$ less than it sells them for now?

Minelab manufactures in Malaysia.

The huge Manticore price swing resulted from a deep discount sale for the holidays followed by an MSRP increase for 2025.

For US detectorists, Garrett might look a little more competitive in the mid-price marketplace depending on how tariffs are applied going forward.  This won't happen overnight.

  • The title was changed to With The Talk Of Tariffs, How Will This Affect The Price Of Metal Detectors?

It's a mixed bag right now. There are upward pressures on pricing due to possible tariffs and generally increasing costs. This is however offset by some intense competition making it possible to get some real bang for the buck by not insisting on owning top end models.

Many people simply want the best, and in the world of big boy toys metal detectors are really not that expensive. So they go up in price, many people are just going to pay it. No matter what, a Manticore is far less in relative terms than a CTX 3030 was 10 years ago. For those who are on a budget, you can get 90% of the top end performance in models costing half or less. In terms of power per dollar we are sitting way better now than we were just a few years ago.

With competition still at a boil, I'd not worry much about being able to get a great detector at an affordable price, unless you simply insist on having what is perceived as the best of the best. And even then, it would probably be cheaper an ATV or a boat or a snowmobile or this golf club....

I am so happy right now that I have zero interest in golfing!

That's what Fred said about your metal detector!  But yeah, I was just making a point - other people can spend way more on many things other than metal detectors, and so looked for a big price tag on a single club. People I know have all the real big boy toys, tens of thousands of dollars, side by side atvs pulled behind 40 foot RVs. Me, a metal detector and sleeping in front seat of car.

I usually sleep in my Subaru too, but I’m not sure if I can keep doing that for too many more trips.

That price is for a set of clubs. Any single club that costs more than $300 is overpriced except for the absolute highest level players. Those clubs are not for the highest level players.

I'd imagine that Garrett and First Texas rely on a number of components that come from abroad, including China. Might not be the same as a tax on a finished detector, but I doubt the American manufacturers are immune.

I heard tonite that what ever tariffs a country puts on out goods, we will put that amount of tariff on their goods.  In Europe, that includes the VAT tax. SO maybe a 20-30% tariff on european detectors coming here?  The dealers might want to stock up on Deus products now!
