“Reeds Prospecting 4 days ago  · YES, it's true, but they will only be available for a LIMITED TIME. Basically, when this last stock of GPX-4500 is gone, Minelab does not have plans to re-start production, so this is One-Off return for the GPX-4500, $3,499”

For deep gold using big coils the old 2200 takes some beating. Will still pick up your pick if on your belt more than any other. Flyshit gold? Who cares anyway? Well maybe Simon, 'cos he chases that stuff.

Even when I try find the bigger stuff I fail, spent all day yesterday mostly targeting deeper ground just off a good patch that I'd pulled half an ounce off at one point, armed with a big coil and the 7000 and what do I get? A crumb.

GPX 4500/5000 X-coils are always a possibility for them, just not a priority, maybe on a special-order basis is more viable than making lots for stock as they would always be low priority.

That setup used in Clermont would have amazing results.

yep, you're only as good as the ground you're detecting in 🙂

Stop fossicking and get cracking at prospecting. There are places in NZ that have produced better gold than that.

Some areas are OK around Clermont assuming the coil calibrates on the Ferrite properly. In High X ground the bad ones are a nightmare. All the testing I’ve done shows a sharper more obvious response on the smaller gold (say up to 8 grams) but not necessarily more depth as claimed. Target signals are stronger than a DOD and more defined (sharper more mono like) so long as you get the tiny centre of the coil EXACTLY centred over the signal.

Prospecting looking for new ground coverage is a no no! The big advantage of the CC is the lowering of conductive signals of which Clermont abounds due to all the clays, in damp conditions the smaller receive is a big advantage, so less conductive signals that mask deep gold and a sharper more mono like response on targets that can be seen are an advantage. I would take a DOD any day over a CC for max edge of detection on large gold with a GPZ.

And to keep things on subject, similar happens with the flat wound coils on a 4500. In high X ground what is thought to be saturation is most likely high X swamping the electronics due to the forced nature of a flat wound swamping the receive. Best bet is to keep these coils up a bit off gravelly ground otherwise you won’t hear the broader deeper nuggets.

There’s a lot of people here wanting the high quality CC’s but they have been hard to get here, so hopefully in the near future we will see this CC type of coil being offered with the next factory release models.
The market for high quality GPX-4500. & GPX-5000 coils here is limited especially now that the large Evo’s are becoming less available, also be nice to get some CC’s for them also do to what JP mentioned with his 3 reactive soils types there are also common here too.

With the GPX 4500 available in Australia I would like your opinion / help Looking at either getting one of these 4500 (new with warranty and 3 coils ) or would I be better off with  a GPX 5000  second hand ( 11 years old but in good condition as far as I can tell ) working with a small budget so can get a 5000 new .

Thanks for any help Roy
