So how do the factory coils perform compered to aftermarket, but they also seem to be in short supply as well or out of stock at most shops i have checked out as well. PeterInSa
Roy, I don't know where you will be detecting, but to me with either a new 4500 or an unmodded 5000, detecting with mates in Vic, who have 6000's and finding small gold that you do not come across ( me last October) is....... 1 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/27810-minelab-gpx-4500-is-back/page/7/#findComment-291893 Share on other sites

Minelab Commander coils are very well regarded......built very tough and are a bit heavier than the competition. 1 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/27810-minelab-gpx-4500-is-back/page/7/#findComment-291894 Share on other sites

What's strange is there doesn't appear to be much promotion outside of Facebook links, etc. Not even listed on official Minelab dealerships here in WA. It's all a bit strange to be honest.🧐 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/27810-minelab-gpx-4500-is-back/page/7/#findComment-291895 Share on other sites

phrunt
My thoughts are the GPX 4500/5000 are great detectors, very good build quality and reliable tanks, and if you've got ground that hasn't been done to death they can likely do well. If you're going over ground that's been hit many times over the years your chances are quite low and that's where different detectors come into play, detectors like the Axiom and Algoforce are cheaper in some countries and have more sensitivity to small targets which may find gold missed by the earlier GPX series. The 6000 is a pinnacle of small and prickly gold performance out of the box for the pulse induction detectors followed by the 7000 and most serious people are swinging either or both of those. The aftermarket coils for the older GPX series especially the spiral wound coils add quite a bit of small gold sensitivity closing the gap a bit between them and the more modern detectors but not entirely and still miss lots of small bits and porous prickly specimen bits the 6000, 7000, Axiom, Algoforce and are capable of getting, likely in that order. Big deeper gold the earlier GPX is said to be still one of the best with the right coil, some may say the best, some like to go even earlier on models to get the best for that task and others insist it's the GPZ. If you're in an area where lots of detecting has gone on over the years using something that's been used there for a decade or more may not be fruitful. 3 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/27810-minelab-gpx-4500-is-back/page/7/#findComment-291898 Share on other sites

Garrett Groundhog A2B it is then🤫 New release for 2025. 1 2 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/27810-minelab-gpx-4500-is-back/page/7/#findComment-291900 Share on other sites
