Dutchman4
Is the 4500 inherently quieter than the 5000? 2 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/27820-gpx-4500-quieter-than-5000/ Share on other sites
phrunt
I found the opposite, my 4500 (an Aussie made one) was much rattier than my 5000. After extensive testing I kept the 5000. 1 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/27820-gpx-4500-quieter-than-5000/#findComment-291750 Share on other sites
PhaseTech
With the 4500 in Enhance and 5000 in Fine Gold I have found them the same, or the 4500 is a little quieter. After using my 5000 for extended periods, and then pulling out the 4500, I often noted how quiet the 4500 was. However both in Normal timing, the 5000 is a little smoother, but it's hard to say as the Rx Gain numbers don't align in both machines. 3 2 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/27820-gpx-4500-quieter-than-5000/#findComment-291754 Share on other sites
Goldseeker5000
Hunting in enhance in Australia might be necessary because of the hot ground but it has a serious depth challenge. Here in the states it's a totally different situation. I never ever hunt in enhance! I only use it to check for hot rocks! Period. If I want to hunt heavy hot ground with rocks like magnetite or basalt then it is best to run a larger dd coil with 5000 set to high mineralization search mode. Popular Post Steve Herschbach
Here is the states just like Australia it depends where you are as far as ground and gold as there is no magic setting that works best everywhere. What worked for me in Alaska is 100% different than what works in California Mother Lode. My go to mode in mild Alaska soils was Sharp. Even Alaska though is a huge and varied place, with some places having hot rocks as bad as I’ve seen anywhere. I'm also a skeptic of engineers who bench test and declare what works or “is better” without extensive field use, as the list of declarations I have from engineers about what worked in the lab and failed in the real world is a long list indeed. Had another one happen in just last year, amazing engineer lab results, giddy excitement - fail in the field. Sometimes the engineers remind me of the YouTube air test brigade. Take ground out of the equation and you have removed the single most important factor detectors deal with. What works brilliantly in the lab often fails the worst in really bad ground. 13 1 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/27820-gpx-4500-quieter-than-5000/#findComment-291791 Share on other sites
